Crash to desktop while prepping for combat

What platform are you running the game on?

Steam

What operating system do you use?

Which version of the game are you running?
1.8.1-640R
What DLC do you have installed?

After clicking the deploy button we go to the prepping for combat screen. Before the prepping for combat button is available the game crashes to desktop.

Thanks for the help.
Have you tried verifying your files?

Could not allocate memory: System out of memory!
Please:

- increase your Windows paging file to 32gb
- exit every other app you can before starting the game
- update that nVidia driver:
https://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us
- add BattleTech.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.

Good luck with that!

Thanks for your quick reply. I tried everything you said and still had the same crash. Updated files and screencaps showing windows defender shouldn't be the issue attached. Anything else I could try would be appreciated.

BTW I was going to try loading that save but my game does not recognise it - was it a campaign or what kind of game?

That first screenshot is the WD firewall, which is nothing to do with this problem.

The second one shows Controlled Folder Access disabled; I suggest you enable it and add BattleTech.exe to the Apps Allowed Through list there. If that doesn't help by all means disable it again.

Did you increase the Windows paging file to 32gb? because it says in that dxdiag:
Page File: 6087MB used, 14139MB available

However it starts to look like there is corruption or a bug involved here:
Could not allocate memory: System out of memory!
Trying to allocate: 18446744073083247464B
That is of course an impossible amount of memory. Yet if this was a game or Unity bug why wouldn't everyone get it?

Please try a **clean** reinstall:

- Remove the game from Steam (uninstall)
- Manually delete all these files and folders, if still there:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\BattleTech\
C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\LocalLow\Harebrained Schemes\
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\USER_ID\637090\
(first move the \remote\C#\SGS#\ folder elsewhere to keep your save games)

- Install the game again

If you still get any problem, please send us a new dxdiag.txt and output_log.txt , thank you.

It's a campaign game and I did increase the paging file to 32 GB - I set the minimum to 2000MB and the maximum to 32000MB. I'll give the reinstall a try and let you know if I still have the issue.

Hello, this seems to be working. I had to reinstall twice; not sure why that worked the only thing I did different was not move my backed up save files back - I just used the ones Steam auto-filled.
Thanks for your help.

How you are performing a clean reinstall on steam? do you have to download the client each time? that must take hours and hours.
Depends on you Internet Service Provider...

Here is the link to Edmon's Clean Uninstall Guide: BATTLETECH Uninstall Guide
(Make sure to follow the directions for deleting BATTLETECH's Hidden Folders too, a surprising number of problems are all too likely to remain with you after the reinstall.)
