One line summary of your issue
Deleted Saved Games Restore on Restart

What platform are you running the game on?

GoG

What operating system do you use?
Windows 7
Which version of the game are you running?
1.7.0-589R
What DLC do you have installed?
Flashpoint,
Urban Warfare

Please explain your issue is in as much detail as possible.
Whenever I delete a saved game using the in-game delete buttons, that saved game returns the next time I restart BATTLETECH.
I have disabled synching to cloud saves for BATTLETECH and GOG Galaxy, but the problem persists. The only way to permanently delete a save is to go to the folder where saved games are stored and manually delete the file.
Have you tried verifying your files?
No

I have just encountered this myself on the latest version. I am also on GoG, playing with the manual download (no Galaxy, so not a cloud issue). I managed to permanently delete my saves by navigating to \AppData\Local\GOG.com\Galaxy\Applications\50593543263669699\Storage\Shared\Files\C0\ and deleting the contents of the CR1 and SGS1 folders contained there. It appears that these were never cleaned up when deleting saves in-game, as I had a lot of old save files in there.

However, only the most recent ones were being restored when I relaunched the game, so I presume something changed at some point in how these are handled.

Hello, AndrewT, thanks for the advice.

I normally played with save synching globally disabled in GoG. For test purposes, I tried enabling synching. That failed as size of the saved games exceeded the limit for GoG's cloud (go figure).

I manually removed most of the saves from the save folder in Windows, and that let me synch up. I then tried createing and deleting saves in game, exiting, and waiting to re-synch, but the saves returned each time I restarted. I also tried disabling synching in GoG specifically for BATTLETECH, but the results are the same. For whatever reason, deleting a save game from the BATTLETECH load menu does absolutely nothing to the saved game file on my PC (or in GoG's cloud, apparently).

I play a bunch of games via GoG Galaxy and I have never encountered this bug anywhere else, so I am skeptical the problem isn't with BATTLETECH. But I will try to contact them and see what they say.

Have the same issue and it does not appear to be Galaxy related - I've uninstalled GOG Galaxy and the problem still persists. The save games are not deleted properly, also even if I avoid manual saving, the old pre- and post-mission autosaves keep piling up in the folder instead of being overwritten as usual.

Same issue. I just located the correct save game folder in the AppData folder directory and thought it was solved. Nope. So I've done the following.

Uninstalled Battletech fully. Uninstalled GoG Galaxy fully. Confirmed no leftover files or folders existed. Restarted computer (Win 7, 64 bit machine). Downloaded GoG Galaxy client. Confirmed in client settings that no features were enabled, like UI overlay or cloud saves. Nothing. Exited client, restarted computer, then loaded Galaxy and installed Battletech (fresh, done on 11 / 23 / 2019). Confirmed in game settings that no features were enabled, including cloud saves.

I then exited Galaxy, restarted computer, left my internet disconnected, and loaded Battletech using its startup icon in the install folder. I created a new campaign character, the game auto saved at the end of creation and for the pre Majestic Metals intro planet drop. I completed the mission, finished the initial decision trees on the Leopard, and did a manual save. There were 3 saves listed at this point (2 automatic, 1 manual). Exited game entirely. Restarted game. Deleted all three (3) saves using the game UI. Exit game. Restart game. ALL 3 game saves are restored. None of the game saves were deleted from the Appdata sub folder from the game's UI.

It's Effed. I don't know what to try. I gave GoG a ticket and I'll see if they have a solution.

Whatever it is, it assuredly is not Galaxy related - I'm running BattleTech on a machine that has never had Galaxy installed. For now I'm happy to just delete things myself, but I've noticed some odd behaviour with the random number seed when I do that - if I clear saves entirely, I get the same few random pilot names and portraits in my starting crew and hiring hall. That doesn't happen if I keep the old saves while I roll the new one.

My update from the GoG support staff was to do the following.

"While deleting the saves please could you also include the following folder:
C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\GOG.com\Galaxy\Applications\50593543263669699\Storage\Shared\Files\C0

Basically when you try to clear your saves make sure to delete the contents of the folder above as well as:
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\Harebrained Schemes\BattleTech\

Both of these can be easily reached using the Run command you are familiar with (WIN key+R)."

I gave it a try. I deleted the "C0" and "battletech" folders entirely from those directory locations. Started up the game using GoG Galaxy with all features turned off, including UI overlay and Cloud saves. Started a new campaign, the game autosaved twice (at character creation and just before the Majestic Metals first battle), and then I manually saved on the battle map for the Majestic Metals mission. Exited to main menu, deleted all 3 saves (2 auto saves, 1 manual) and the campaign tag was deleted as well. Exited game. Restarted game and... All 3 saves were there.

Exited game. Exited GoG Galaxy. Restarted computer. Located the 2 folders listed above and deleted them again. Started the game using the launch icon in the install folder with GoG galaxy not having been started, and my internet connection disabled. Started a new campaign, went through the 2 auto saves, did a manual save on the battle map, exited to main menu, deleted the 3 saves, and exited game. Restarted game using the launch icon. All 3 saves were present again.

I'm done. I know for a fact that if I uninstalled the game and re installed it to the 1.7.0 patch that I could play the game without any problems. This issue started with the 1.7.1 patch. But there's no point in playing the game in that way.

Here's the response from GoG:

===========
To clarify, I wrote that the game does not feature option to remove, because currently this option does not work, and you should not rely on it. Indeed the Galaxy system is GOG however it's a bit more complicated. The game is using the Galaxy SDK cloud storage solution, because of this the game is managing the save files in the cloud, not the Galaxy Client.

I'm afraid that in case of this game, the implementation of save removal function available in game looks like it's done faulty. In this case if you want to use the in-game function to remove the save files, you should reach the Paradox support, and continue your previous ticket with them, as the problem lies in how it is implemented in game, not in the Galaxy cloud system itself.
===========

I think there's a bit of a translation issue, but the gist seems to be that the problem is on Paradox's end, not theirs. That fits with the problem existing outside of Galaxy, so I'm inclined to believe them.

Not sure if there's anything we can do to fix it, though.

I have exactly the same problem, it's like trying to get rid of cockroaches. It effects both career and campaign saves and it seems to be a recent problem.

Please fix this, it's a pain in the arse!

Same thing for me too. Gog version patch 1.8.1. Aftere restart of Battletech all saves and carrers restore after delete. No matter if gog galaxy cloud on or off.
This nasty bug still persist.

output_log.txt is flooded with messages like this:

Code:
Unity [ERROR] Galaxy.Api.GalaxyInstance+InvalidArgumentError: No such file in storage: fileName=C0\SGS1\c76ec73a-0e8d-4d40-9da7-6930403fa79e.sav
  at Galaxy.Api.IStorage.FileDelete (System.String fileName) [0x0001b] in <9ab806425e124d6bacca1db2210ff006>:0
  at BattleTech.Save.Core.GOGFileOperations.DeleteFile (System.String path) [0x00005] in <6e6a2842a1aa4571abb9707819294597>:0

so it seems the game tries to delete some save in galaxy cloud even though users don't even have that enabled, which of course fails as there is no such save, thus the whole operation is canceled.
-> Please respect users setting of enabled/disables cloud saves AND/OR catch the exception and perform the delete either way.
