One line summary of your issue
Escort Missions - Convoy gets stuck

What platform are you running the game on?

Steam

What operating system do you use?
Windows 10
Which version of the game are you running?
1.8.0-629R
What DLC do you have installed?
Flashpoint,
Urban Warfare,
Shadowhawk Pack,
Heavy Metal

Please explain your issue is in as much detail as possible.
In 2 different Escort Missions, Save the Prototype and Grand Theft Auto, one of the convoy vehicles moves into a weird location and gets stuck. I can move my mechs right beside the vehicle, shift them around, try and make sure there is space available to move. But they just sit there. Question, Is there any way to force a mission to complete successfully, or am I just screwed and have to accept the failure?
Have you tried verifying your files?
No

Steps to reproduce the issue
Play the missions, watch Convoy vehicle take a creative path, get stuck, become frustrated.

This little fellow lost sight of the escort believe it or not. I could not get him to move and had to withdraw...

I had this issue twice in Grand Theft Auto in a snowy biome, the first time both the Demolisher and a SRM truck got stuck, I re-started the mission and just the Demolisher got stuck, finally had to give up and abandon the mission.

Same issue in Grand Theft Auto on the snowy mtn pass. Just like --or very similar to-- the initial release, the tanks get stuck and will not restart moving no matter what you try.

Same issue; killed two Iron Man saves because of it. Can we just stop these problems outright by giving the player control over Allied units please? The current escort logic doesn't make any sense anyway: who in their right mind would drive APCs into a known hot area if they knew the escorts could clean up the area first?

Got the same problem. Its the same situation shown in the screenshot above. Exactly at the same place the APC got stuck. Its repeatable. I tried succesfully to direct the APC on the lover way by blocking the path with a mech. Two rounds latter the APC got stuck one movement point before entering the target area... Did the same map repeatedly before the patch without any problems.

Additionally the initiative order is screwed up if escortet or otherwise involved units are leaving the battlefield. Enemy units get a free movement turn an the initiative order starts again from the beginning.

I'm on a ironman game and the last vehicle is stuck in the exact same position for me.

EDIT: this really, really, sucks, as I was going to get some good salvage on that mission but if I withdraw of course that won't happen. I'm attaching my save file just in case there is some way to fix this. And I am really disappointed that a bug that has existed in the game for over a year has still not been taken care of.

Hey, I'm really sorry that happened to you and I really hope a workaround is revealed. You're right, it sucks if you are on ironman when this kind of thing happens.

If you have any evidence that this bug existed prior to 1.8.0 (released 2019-11-21), you should post it. Everything I've found indicates this bug was introduced in 1.8, which was less than two months ago.

Here's a post I made on the issue in June of last year. Maybe this is a new occurrence of the same type of issue, I don't know. But that post wasn't the first time I'd experienced this issue either - it existed in 2018 as well. It's a festering issue and it's gotten to the point where they should make escort vehicles manually controlled by the player if they just can't get the AI working straight, or just remove the mission type entirely. It's ridiculous.

Anyway, if someone knows some command or something I could execute to force-complete the mission that would be great. But I'm in ironman mode so those commands are probably disabled - ack.

EDIT - I just found a way to force-win the mission - see this video for anyone else having the same issue. Glad to be past this and I certainly won't be doing another escort mission again in Ironman.

I figured out how to force-complete the mission, selected the griffon 1S and Thunderbolt pieces of salvage for you (There was a black knight piece, but you already have a full black knight and it wouldn't have completed a set like the griffon would) and saved.

I'll PM you with instructions how to do this for yourself in the future, if needed.

And yeah, the bug you reported in June looks like a different issue to me. But I can empathize with your point that from a user perspective, "convoy got stuck" bugs are all equivalently frustrating. :)

During tonight’s Livestream, Mitch offered up some more insights into the upcoming BATTLETECH Free Update 1.9

The most important to me was:

Convoy Mission Fixes - a new Short Range AI Pathing algorithm is being combined with a past Successful Long Range AI Pathing; Convoy Vehicles will now be able to pass through each other as well as the Player’s BattleMechs (though they will not stop on pips if they are occupied; and lastly Convoy Missions will now Auto-Complete if all Enemies have been destroyed.

Taken as a whole, this comprehensive approach to Convoy Missions should address just about every single previously noted problem with the Convoy AI imo.

The video can be found at Twitch VoD: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/540789821

Mitch addresses this within the first few minutes of the broadcast.

I'm on 1.9.1-686R and still seeing this bug. It's an Ironman save, but thankfully I think I have enough save-file-fu to get to before the mission. I haven't tried the go-and-kill-everything workaround yet, but even with that being available this is still pretty bad breakage.

First attachment (starting with 0c05) is a save from before accepting the mission Grand Theft Auto; it's popped up for me three times so far, so probably pretty reliable.

Second attachment (starting with 38f8) is a save from after two vehicles (a Schreck and a Demolisher) get stuck in that mission, and after saving and reloading didn't fix the issue.

@asaz989, did the “Go-Kill-Everything” procedure work?

Add another convoy pathing error. These bad boys never even made it out of the spawn point. They went down the ramp to the bottom, then turned around and drove up, and now just end their turn. tried moving to either side of them, on the ground in front of the ramp. Everything. The one on the top is proceeding as normal, the on in the trees was up top, but turned around to drive south into the trees and is now stuck there.

3/4 convoy units stuck... Ironman save... I've never had a problem on this map before, so this is new. It's usually a different map with a water crossing and mountains where they drive into a little pocket and get stuck.

This happened to me on Sunday. I tried restarting 3 times to get the Demolisher down the ramp. In the last attempt, I kept all 4 my mechs a few hexes away in plain view of the ramp. Although the dialog boxes say the APCs will follow me, they actually seem to be following the lead Striker. Once it rounds the corner and heads up the road, the slower units follow it and drive back up the ramp and will not budge. It is to bad because in one of my games the two Strikers were able to help clear the opposition quite nicely.
