One line summary of your issue
Game Crashes in Preparing Combat Screen

What platform are you running the game on?

Steam

What operating system do you use?
Windows 10
Which version of the game are you running?
1.8.1 640R
What DLC do you have installed?
Flashpoint,
Urban Warfare,
Heavy Metal

Please explain your issue is in as much detail as possible.
Mission was crashing in my campaign. Wrote a ticket Jan 20, 2020. Was asked if the issue was limited to that file so started a career. It has also started crashing in the preparing for combat screen. I added these files to end of that thread but figured a new report would be a better way of going about things. No crash file exists in either location.
Have you tried verifying your files?
No

Steps to reproduce the issue
Take a mission.

Attach DxDiag (PC), System Info log (Mac), or run sudo lshw -html > specs.html and uploaded specs.html (Linux)

Attach Output Log
Windows: \Users\YourUserName\AppData\LocalLow\Harebrained Schemes\BATTLETECH\output_log.txt
Mac OS: Users >{name} > Library > Logs > Unity > Player.log
Linux: ~/.config/unity3d/Harebrained Schemes/BATTLETECH/Player.log

If the game crashed, please attach the crash file with the time stamp closest to the crash.
Windows: [Steam library folder]\steamapps\common\BATTLETECH\DumpBox
For v.17 and beyond try here: C:\Users\[YourUserName]\AppData\LocalLow\Harebrained Schemes\BATTLETECH
OSX: Macintosh HD > Users > [username] > Library > Application Support > Steam > steamapps > common > BattleTech > DumpBox
Linux: [Steam library folder]/steamapps/common/BATTLETECH/DumpBox

If a save game was loaded at the start of the game session, upload it. Please make sure to upload the save game with the timestamp closest to when you loaded it.
Windows:
Steam: [Steam installation folder]\userdata[SteamID]\637090\remote\C0\SGS1
GOG: 'C:\Users\USER_ID\AppData\Local\GOG.com\Galaxy\Applications\50593543263669699\Storage\Shared\Files\C#\SGS#'
Vanilla:'C:\Users\USER_ID\AppData\LocalLow\Harebrained Schemes\BattleTech\C#\SGS#'
OSX:
Steam: Macintosh HD > Users > [username] > Library > Application Support > Steam > userdata > [SteamID] > 637090 > remote > C#> SGS#
GOG: Macintosh HD > Users > [username] > Library > Application Support > GOG.com > Galaxy > Applications > 50593543263669699 > Storage > Shared > Files > C# > SGS#

I don't know one way or another if the issue in your game was addressed in 1.9 or not , but even if it was it may need (I'm sorry!) yet another restart - IOW any such fix may prevent the problem from happening but not fix it in an existing affected save file.

Anway do see if it happens under 1.9!

It still exists with 1.9. Started last night a fresh campaign to check out things, and already in third battle the game crashes to every desktop every time when entering the battle (previously it happened much later for me, so it haven't got at least better :p ). Save of the game available if needed.

Can we see the dxdiag and outout logs files please?

Attached. I had to remove two Windows error reports (WER0 and WER1) due to me being under NDA regarding things of those two products.

That output log does not have the memory error the first one did. Sadly it also does not have any other clue as to what triggered the crash - the game is running along fine, no errors or warnings.

It did happen just after a game save, so add BattleTech.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.

This is a new campaign or career started since 1.9, is that right?

Please run BattleTechLauncher.exe and use the crash reporter in there to submit the crash to the BT developers directly, thanks.

It is a new campaign, yes. I have had this same crash pop up randomly since 1.8, usually very late in the campaign, and the only way to avoid it when continuing from the autosave is to fly to another system and take a new job. This was the first time it happened this early in the campaign, the third mission already.

I have BattleTech (just like I have all the games I play which require access to the Internet) on my exception lists (both firewall and Windows Defender), so that has already been taken care of. And I have of course sent the report already with the launcer, I came here just to verify the bug is still very much present (as that was asked above from the thread starter to be verified if this still happens in 1.9).

I have the same problem and seek some solution.... It crash only for 1 out of 8-10 contracts... in prepping for combat screen.... Both firewall and Windows Defender (and FSecure antivirus) allow Battletech (as an exception). Is there a patch or a way to avoid this problem ?
Thanks !

If we can see the output_log.txt or player.log to confirm it is the same issue, thanks.

There are no patches past 1.9 out yet.

The latest patch seemed to have fixed it for me. I tried yesterday with three different saves which before always resulted in crash when preparing for battle, and now they all worked fine :)

I have exactly the same issue... once it crashes in the loading screen it will crash every time... I even tried redoing previous mission but no luck... it is like the third time it happens and normally I will just go in a different mission but right now there's only the main mission so I'm stuck, please help. I started this campaign a week ago and I always play with latest updates installed.

Update/workaround: Flying back and forth to a different system prevented it from glitching, not good on c-bills but good thing my campaign has generous loot

I recently got a new computer and installed BattleTech on it. Started a new campaign yesterday and it has been crashing like this. Doesn't do it on every mission, but I have no idea which missions it will do it on. Didn't have this problem with my old computer.

There is no crash in that output log. Did you take it just after one of these crashes? If not please send in a new one from then.

You cold try updating that AMD video driver:
https://www.amd.com/en/support/graphics/amd-radeon-hd/amd-radeon-hd-7000-series/amd-radeon-hd-7750
And you should go into the game's video settings and disable Ambient Occlusion.

This is still happening to me in 1.9.1. I even tried a clean uninstall but that didn't fix it. First mission I take after the one where you fight Grim Sybil and recover the Argo the game crashes.

UPDATE: I noticed that despite cloud sync being turned off my old save files were still there. I deleted them manually from within the game and after that it worked fine until Steam crashed during a mission which made it so after the mission Battletech crashed.
