Lots of errors in that log, not sure if they are related to your problem, in all honesty. Does a Steam Verify operation find anything to fix?

Has this always happened ever since you've had the game?

After one of these, can you start the game run up again? Or do you need to reboot, or wait a while?

What if you run with all mods disabled, does is happen still?

Any overclocking in effect here?

This has happened since like 20 minutes into the game the first time I started playing, without any mods or DLC.

I can start the game fine again. I just alt+f4 back.

Still happens without mods.

No overclocking, everything is stock.

Just happened again two minutes ago. Screen goes black for a second or two, the becomes unresponsive. Attached is the output log.

This is the only game I'm having trouble with.

This one, at least, is still loading:
BattletechPerformanceFix [LOG] Initialized com.github.m22spencer.BattletechPerformanceFix 2.12.0.29434
BattletechPerformanceFix [LOG] Mod-Dir? D:\...\steamapps\common\BATTLETECH\Mods\BattletechPerformanceFix
BattletechPerformanceFix [LOG] BattletechPerformanceFix found BattleTech 1.8.1 and will now load
I've never used mods with this game but is it possible to stop them all from loading at all, then test with a new campaign that's never had mods used in it please?

Experiencing the same exact problem, validation just ran so will try again in a bit (didn't see it say there were any files at issue). Only difference between when it worked and now was that I installed the geforce experience app.

I just started using mods a few days ago and this problem was present then.

it seems to be related to graphics though, as I dropped everything to medium and now the problem seems to be gone. Could also be one of the advanced settings that does it.

I've never downloaded a mod for this game (never played it long enough). But geforce experience may have turned up extra settings so graphics setting makes sense.

Same issue. :/
It's clearly video related from all the errors in there, but no solid clue as to what exactly. Your GTX 570 is barely above the game's minimum requirement, but that should not mean it crashes of course. The other thing is nVidia have stopped making new drivers for it, so nothing to try there.

Possibly it's just running out of Vram.

Have you tried reducing the graphics quality settings in the game?

I must admit that, after reducing my video setting, the game is way more stable. Look like my GeForce GTX 1660 Ti is not enough strong to play at Max setting.

It happens on the lowest settings, although less often. I've noticed the biggest culprits are on Ally turns an when going to the mechbay and starmap. I've turned off most of the dynamic cameras. Are there any settings that aren't quality-related I should adjust (anti-aliasing, vsync and whatnot?

I simply can't say, I'm sorry - please try the lot! What's to lose ? :)

I was having this issue and I thought I tried everything, I was at my wits end thinking I was having some hardware issue, in a sense I was right. Obviously this may not be your solution but what ended up resolving it for me was going through device manager and displaying hidden devices. I didn't have devices that were missing drivers, but I did have some devices that where once installed and now hidden, more specifically my onboard video card.

When I first loaded my O/S the onboard video was turned on and Windows automatically installed the drivers, at some point in went back into my BIOS and disabled it not ever realizing I should make sure it was COMPLETELY disabled, as such that hidden display adapter was causing my issues, after removing it, as well as a couple other devices, the game no longer freezes with the audio and controls still working.

I will also point out I was receiving buffer errors similar to d3d11: failed to create buffer (target 0x1 mode 3 size 223160) [0x887A0005]...after doing some digging it appeared the error could be caused with OS / engine / driver / and a legacy video adapter still being present, it was like the video device was being dropped by direct 3D while it tried accessing the old device.

Prior to this I did almost everything else under the sun short of reloading my O/S, which would have inadvertently fixed the issue too, but I would have never known the cause.

I would also speculate anyone that has multiple display adapters active could cause similar issues, also note this problem was completely sporadic and I would only get D3D errors in a couple games out the dozen or so I would play.
