I was just thinking of this last night see if any one agrees with me
The Battletech franchise is now on re bound after many years on the back shelf while mainly thanks to disney the star wars franchise seems to be dying

I don't know a single person who wants to see ep 9 after the disaster that was the last jedi

Disney effectively owns the video rights to both sooo...

Also, a box office $1.333 billion take does not a disaster make.

Episode 8 has essentially drained all excitement and enthusiasm I had for the franchise. I even liked Episode 7 for the most part (issues and all). When 8 came out though, it just trashed everything established and went on some weird storytelling arcs. Essentially, Ep.8 was made as a stand-alone story that, other than character names and actors, ignored everything established in Ep.7 and even older movies. You can't do that in the middle of what is supposed to be a coherent trilogy IMO. It just ruins everything.

The fire has gone out in my soul for the Star Wars franchise. I'm not saying I won't see Episode 9 eventually, however I am not in eager anticipation for it (or other movies that may come after it). I'm not forsaking the franchise all together, but it really needs to impress some time in the future to give me back that passion for the Star Wars universe (something I feel similarly about when it comes to Star Trek as well).

I'm glad BattleTech is seeing a resurgence as of late in the PC gaming space. It is another franchise I hold dear, so it is nice to see it take a more active roll in my fandom as of the past few years :).

Also, as a side note, I am also extremely happy that The Orville is a thing too! I love that I have a great show to help fill the void Star Trek has left in my heart as well.

#RenewTheOrville :)

saw episode 4 when it first came out in 77 and was hooked.
to me disney has revitalized the star wars movies after the dismal ep 1..2 wasnt bad...3 was decent.
i LIKE ep 7 and 8 and the stand alones.
cant wait for ep9
i like star wars.....lot and have played most of the video games , arcade/pc/console.
but i never really got into the comics or the novels.
never understood the hate for the new stuff....other then folks auto hate anything disney.

also one of those who really likes star trek too.
@MeiSooHaityu The Orville is more star trek then Star Trek.

Considering they killed off the EU which was actually better than some of the movies ep 1 2 and 3 in my opinion are better than the new movies its not so much a hate of anything new
its the way disney have treated the old characters hans death made no sense he deserved better as did luke and the less we say about leia poppins the better

I am almost 40, but I was introduced to Star Wars fairly late compared to others. When I was in Junior High, I watched a marathon of Ep.4 to 6 on the Sci-Fi Channel and was hooked from there. I bought novels, toys, technical readouts of ships, and PC games (like the amazing Tie FIghter).

I don't have any real anger towards Disney when it comes to Star Wars. I liked Episode 7 and have watched it several times. Rogue One is one of my favorite Star Wars movies actually. Heck, I even thought Solo was ok. I just don't like Episode 8 at ALL. That is the movie that really disappointed me and being in the middle of a trilogy, just sort of messes up Episode 9 for me. It's weird how that one movie just sort of deflated things for me .

As for Star Trek, that was the Sci-Fi franchise I got into first. I remember watching TNG as a kid in the late 80s. I watched DS9 and Voyager (although by Voyager I was feeling the franchise fatigue a bit by then). I also liked Enterprise quite a bit although I know that show can be rather polarizing. I also love watching TOS and even the old TOS cartoon. As for Discovery...well I refer to it as STD so I am sure you know my feelings on that one :).

I agree 100% that The Orville is more Star Trek than Star Trek. Seth MacFarlane, love him or hate him, has done an amazing job with The Orville and has created an amazing homage. It isn't really a surprise though once you look at some of his past (Ed Mercer in training? :D)...

He has a pure passion for Star Trek and it shows. If anyone was going to do it justice, it was going to be him IMO.

Sorry. I tried. I really did. I just couldn't write a snarky comeback about how I agree and hope BattleTech doesn't become crap by pushing OP Clans on us again. Oh well.

I disagree with your assessment of the Star Wars franchise. Your statement about how disappointed you were that Ep7 was just "a new hope 2.0" shows a misunderstanding of the structure of the Star Wars story as Lucas outlined and wrote it, but oh well. Star Wars will go on until it stops being a billion-dollar-plus franchise.

I'm looking forward to Episode 9 to see if it follows in the footsteps of the previous 2 cycles of Star Wars (psst, Star Wars is a cyclical 3-part story... Ep7/8/9 is the third cycle. Sssh. Don't tell anyone.) and gives us the triumph of Rey or if it diverges dramatically from that cycle. Rogue One is definitely one of the best Star Wars movies and might even be THE BEST one if you exclude Empire Strikes Back. I was more disappointed in Solo than I was in Ep8, but the change to Han Solo's backstory and Leia-poppins (that's a good one btw) aren't going to stop me from enjoying the movies any more than Jar Jar Binks stopped me from watching Ep 2 and 3.

BattleTech doesn't have the same cyclical nature to it that Star Wars does so you don't have to worry about BattleTech having something that would be "just a new hope 2.0" or anything like it. And there's no 'single group' in BattleTech that has the same visible impact that the Republic/Rebels/Jedi have in Star Wars. So it takes a LOT more to come up with a 'hook' in BattleTech that is repeatable. BattleTech has lots of 'little' stories. The moneymaker for BattleTech is the games where the fans are allowed to tell their own stories within the context of the universe and not in the Hero's Tale kind of story that Star Wars offers up.

there are two things that make ep 2 and 3 not great and 1 unbearable.
jar jar binks..another attempt by lucas to get the kiddies (like the horrible ewoks)

and the the actor who played young anakin.....a corpse would have been a better actor.
actually any other boy child of that age at that time would have been a better actor.

like i said i never got in the EU so i dont miss it

@MeiSooHaityu ya seth really has it down pat.
he was smart in surrounding hmselff with a core group of good tv actors. (funny thing LaMarr used to be his production company receptionist)
ed mercer is basically the same character seth plays in any live action...but the writing and camera work and other actors are really good.
the visual style of orville reminds me alot of how TNG did things.
i also like the he toned down the humor abit in season 2.
i dont see and issue with it being around for at least one more season.

I can enjoy Episode 3. I think it is because, for some reason, I just like Star Wars when things go sideways. That is why I like Episode 3 and Episode 5. I still prefer the original trilogy over anything the prequels did, however I think Episode 3 is fun enough to watch when it comes to the prequel trilogy. And yes, I agree, Hayden Christiansan (SP?) was terrible. I do wonder how much was due to Lucas's questionable directing skills though too. Everyone in the prequel trilogy was fairly flat in their acting after all (with maybe Ewan McGregor being the exception).

I only read a bit of the EU books. I actually was hooked on the X-Wing books more than anything. Following the exploits of Wedge Antilles and Rogue Squadron was fun and interesting. I did read some of the main line books, but not too many.

Now all we need is for BattleTech to come back to TV. The Animated Series was fun enough, but it is definitely a product of it's time and feels very dated as such. I think we need something new. I'd prefer a live action show (GoT like maybe?), however if another Cartoon is all that could be in the works, still count me in.

hayden was bearable at least....especially after watching jake lloyds wooden non-emoting acting in ep1

ya BT on tv would be nice.
i think something like netflix/amazon would be best bet for it.
sci fi shows are doing well...and we already know folks like giant robots (pacifc rim / transformers)

I do feel like Lucas isn't the best director when it comes to getting actors to emote and sell a performance. Maybe Lloyd would have always been sub-par, but maybe with a good director, he could have been mediocre to ok. I only thought of Hayden because Episode 2 (when he was courting Padame) made him look like a stalker. Seriously, if you watch the movie again, he comes across as creepy. The movie was boring anyway though so...ehh, it can be ignored :).

I like what they did with Voltron and Castlevania, so I have faith that they could make a good cartoon if they went a more lighter tone (like Voltron or the original BattleTech), or if they went dark and broody with it (like Castlevania and would be more in line IMO with the 3025 feel).

Overall though, I think a live action show would be better. I know budgets can balloon like crazy with special effects, so a more politically driven experience like GoT but with the great houses would be rather cool and interesting. Just don't forget to sprinkle in some epic mech battles :).
