BATTLETECH: What's Next?

We understand you all want a Clans expansion soon.... but how about we flesh out the Inner Sphere first. There are 25 YEARS to cover in game before the Clans show up. In that period is an entire War to take place before the Clans show up. Let the game develop before the Clans decimate us all in short order.

I'd like to experience more of the Inner Sphere before it goes to hell in a Clan basket. Be patient... they MUST bring out the Clans eventually... it is a must to happen and we get it; really we do.
 
HBS does indeed hope to bring us a Fourth Succession War Expansiom before progressing in timely fashion on to the CLAN INVASIONS. These have been Jordan and Mitch's hopes for the better part of three years now...

...in Success of course, and success to me seems to be in strong evidence. : )

They mentioned it as a possibility, not a plan, and constantly telling people this is what's going to happen is only doing everyone a disservice in the event that things turn out differently.

Very clearly I state that it is a "hope", and one that Jordan and Mitch have mentioned many times over the past three years. : )
 
I for one hope they do 4th SW, and 3039, and a bunch of other things, before we get to anything resembling 3050.

And 3050 is where I hope they double-down on their policy of "inspiration, not duplication" in terms of the weapons, etc, with the influx of Clamtech.


(Edit: and adding the Clans also WILL require rethinking the whole "only one lance ever" policy. I'll take on a single Star of Clamtech with a two lances or a company, but there is no way I'm dropping a single lance against what would effectively be a Binary or even Trinary (10 to 15 mechs) of Clamtech.)

In my opinion HBS has done a stellar job translating BattleTech into BATTLETECH, even adding features cut from brand new whole cloth ~ Stability System, Turn Order, etc.

Clan Tech, Zellbrigen, Batchall, etc ~ all offer Team HBS yet additional opportunity to work from the original. : )
 
Yes I aggree Prussian Havoc, HBS did a very good Job to make this Game only with Kickstartermoney and a litte cash infusion from PDox.

The Game and Story is great, because you have to think what you do next. And it playes after the 3rd Succesion War in the short Peactime to the 4th Succesion War (like between the 1. and 2. WW on Earth). No Game in BT before (only Mechwarrior 1) gave us a Timeline like now.

All BT Games (MW 2, 3, 4 incl. Add-Ons as well as MC 1 and 2) told us only about the Claninvasion or the fight about 3, max. 4 Great Houses with Clanmodified Human Tech or Clantech. That was very boring and only because that the BT-Universe was lost for 1 to 2 Decades. And the good Books weren´t produced anymore too.
 
Well, there has been success... but has there been enough Success?
 
Since Paradox has been chatty as hell regarding details and even gave us a roadmap quickly after the launch, with the reason "the game has outsold our best projections!". I take the silence right now as = Working overtime focused on Update 1.

In april and may, the devs answered details stuff all over. Videos, AMA, forums, interviews and what not. And the main bosses of Paradox appears in game news interviews, stating commitment and working on Battletech development. Sure, people can lie, but the track record of Paradox statement shows that they deliver.

The business execs of game companies doesn't state stuff, unless they will deliver, or at least fully intend to. The bosses are not only talking to us, the players, but to the business world, shareholders and game media. Any false statements or failing to deliver can serious impact the whole company.
Note: What developers and other game-related positions says, doesn't come with this risk.

I would love to hear tons of details about Update 1, a roadmap for Update 2 and what the DLC will include.
However,
..I understand the risk devs takes each time they say anything about upcoming content. Stuff gets changed/added/removed/delayed etc.

So, that's why I am GUESSING that they are working overtime on Update 1 right now. And that's why we havn't heard much from them in the past weeks.
If someone wants to call me too optimistic or having pink glasses on, you wouldn't be totally wrong :p.

What I would absolutely *love* to see integrated as part of the expansion experiences is a chance to fold the timeline into the main sandbox. Have "News Event" updates a bit like MW4 where as things move forward you hear about the various faction power struggles (Opening up contract options) and start to see the tech be released for adoption.

Which gives BT a chance to really show/feel the differences in the era. I got started with MW2 and didn't appreciate how far ahead of the curve it was until I went back and saw what the 3025 models of those same mechs were built like.

It's probably super awkward to actually implement; there's some pretty huge timeline gaps between events that would be hard to fill with sandboxing (especially if you're trying to inch forward to the first wave of Helm recovery tech), but as an "In Success!" Stretch goal it'd be rad.
 
I would absolutely buy one or two more "campaign" DLC

But would like the next game to move from lance focused to company (or larger focus). Yes the battles will still be lance or lance + vs up to company sized enemy units but hopefully we will have more of a commander feel to the player character rather than just another mechwarrior.
 
After 200 hours of BattleTech I installed to see how the RogueTech mod collection was.
And I can say it is amazing. It blows out of the sky the vanilla version of the game.
60 hours into Roguetech
Literally all the mechanics are better, more complete, and complex.
The addition of weapons and equipment is tremendous but that is not the only thing, the balance is proper.
In vanilla game, pulse lasers are useless and when you salvage them in the specific missions, you don't have any use for them, because they are useless. They do not offer any real advantage although logically they should have improved aim.

I strongly recommend BattleTech official programers and developers team to install roguetech mod and play over and over and over to grasp what is missing to the official BattleTech.

Mods are not officially supported, but this mod should show the official team where BattleTech needs to be.

This latest forcefully installed by Steam update broke my Roguetech improved game, and I can assure the developers, I will not return to BattleTech, even with what is presented.
Imagine being a chess passionate player and being blocked from playing it, but offered tic tac toe. This is how BattleTech feels compared to Roguetech.
So pretty please, dear developers, your game is very nice and lovely, but after sinking the teeth into Roguetech, it feels incomplete, shallow in terms of content and mechanics.
The mercenary side of things is lacking a lot, especially when limited to a handful of faction controlled spaces.
And the most important aspect:
All missions, no matter if they are called battle, assassination or escort (etc...) are the same thing, a skirmish.
There is literally nothing allowing the player to do a stealthy mission, because the second your sensors pick you up, all enemies will converge on you.
The hot landing missions should have empty mechs lying around, and if played right, able to salvage them in their mint conditions.
In other missions, you should be able to use mechs without sensors, in passive mode and evade enemies without LOS, and not triggering them at all, to allow for the sneaky assassination, or hell in battle mode, where you are a surprise to the opfor, they should not be in defensive mode from the start.

So, the mechanics of the battle phase need major redesign.
I understand skirmish is where this game started from, and skirmish should be left alone, there is is a direct confrontation of 2 teams knowing about the fight.
But the campaign mode, the free roam should be a lot more, not the same thing...reinforcements appearing in the first round because of preset locations that trigger them (instead of a logical "sound the alarm" situation, and they needing several rounds to reach, and not firing volleys of lrm from across the map
 
The 1.1 update is incredibly good! My eyes glazed over reading through the multitude of changes introduced. Cant wait to restart my campaign and see how the new meta works.

However, whats in store for us DLC wise?
Are we getting another canned campaign where we will be guided from skirmish to skirmish?

Or will the non skirmish mode part of the game be expanded to include a plethora of strategy/resource management/AI interaction options in the gameplay?
