Just a couple questions regarding BB and claims. Going off of the Wiki, it says it costs 2BB to take a title in an offensive war, but does that apply when you have a claim to it too? Also, what's the natural BB decay rate, or is it just based off the piety rating as on the wiki?

Maybe I'm misunderstanding the question, but my understanding is that you can't take a province at all without a claim to it, unless it's a state of another (non christian) religion, in which case I believe there is no BB penalty for grabbing it.

So there's really only one scenario where you can grab a province, and that's with a claim. If you don't have a claim, the most you can do is demand they become your vassal, demand they forfeit claims they might have on your territory, etc.

So the 2BB cost applies in any landgrab that you are eligable for.

Your wording seems to confuse 'grabbing titles' and literally installing yourself as the rightful claimant, which is throwing me off a little. You can grab titles using prestige, but if you already have a claim on a title you have no reason to grab the title(and the UI won't let you try). Just because you have a claim doesn't mean you control the province, it just means that the christian world recognizes that you(and probably a dozen other people) have a legitimate claim on control of a province if you can either inherit it, or take it by force. But you must always have a claim to take control of a christian province.

As for the decay, I believe it also depends on various stats your leader has(in combination with their chancellor's stats), but I'm not positive, someone else might have an easier time answering that.

Hmmm, yeah, I could of worded it better sorry :eek:o

So far as I can tell, I still take the BB hit for religious enemies, as I just stormed my way to Livonia as Poland and well.....noone likes me. :rolleyes:

So really, what I'd be asking is with grabbing the title being 1BB, do I take a second 2BB for taking the title in a war?

What had brought up my question is in the same Poland game, the Duke of Nytria had accepted an offer of vassalization from me...2 days before being re-annexed by Hungary, but I had still gotten a claim on the Dukeship of Nytria, so I was wondering whenever I get the WS to make the King recognize that claim, would I take the BB hit?

Wheee run-on sentences. :rofl:

edit* whoops, I realized you actually answered my question in there, so it's 3 BB total to take a province from Christians, unless I have a pre-existing claim....ok, thanks very much :D

Yup, except I think it's only 1BB for grabbing non-christian lands.
Alexandria is looking fine this time of year;)

I've been looking for an answer to that for some time. There is no equasion for BB reduction as far as I can tell, but what I understand from wiki, it is dependant on piety, not ruler's stats.

Haha, there you go. It's been a while since I've dug deep into the game, so I'm a bit rusty. Been thinking about playing again now that Paradox is hinting at CK2, though.

The formula for badboy reduction:
Patrick O'Harte said:
BB Reduction = ( 0.1 * sqr(Piety) ) / (1 + Difficulty)

For example:

Piety = 1750
Difficulty = 3

BB Reduction = ( 0.1 * sqr(1750) ) / (1 + 3)
BB Reduction = ( 0.1 * 41.833 ) / 4
BB Reduction = 4.1833 / 4
BB Reduction = 1.045825033
Simplified: BB Reduction = 1.05

Getting a new ruler will also remove one third of the BB value accrued, so if your badboy is 3 it becomes 2 when your ruler dies.

huh. My piety is almost always negative because of those damn crusades. Even once I've captured Jerusalem, Alexandria, or wherever the game doesn't recognise it and still takes the penalty away from me.

I've found the best way to reduce BB is to give away titles, especially if you give them to your heir, then when he becomes king you can give them away all over again.

As long as there is a Crusade going on you will get a piety-penalty. If you have moneylenders in your demesne then that will also lower your piety. Having non-christian provinces in your demesne will lower the penalty.

Creating bishoprics is the best way to get positive piety.

Yes, but the crusade seems to go on even after I've captured the target.

Everything is event driven. The crusade was started with an event and it will end with an event. Once the Crusade target has been captured, it is just a count-down for the MTTH of the End Crusade Event. The trick here is that the more provinces you own around the crusade target, the quicker the event fires.

I remember once as the King of Ireland, I went on a crusade to capture Jerusalem. I did so, having captured the entire Kingdom of Jerusalem. But the Crusade never ended... and went on for 5 years. Eventually I got tired of it and the large demesne penalty and made my heir the King of Jerusalem (Well, Archbishop of Jerusalem really). 2 days later, the crusade ended but my heir got all the credit :wacko: Not the worst outcome but I sort of needed that piety to burn off all the BB I had acquired from capturing an entire kingdom....
