I'm pretty sure they know that already.

Good warning although they have been explicitly trying to make sure nobody is expecting V3 this year so it wouldn't be really fair getting mad about that.

Rome 2 or something like it's a different matter

Sure it is. Many of us have been clamoring for Vic3 for 3, 4 years now while they fumbled through the last few years. Since Vic2's development has ended:

-The Magna Mundi Fiasco occurred
-HOI4 had multiple lengthy delays
-Stellaris came out and didn't work to the point where Wiz has fundamentally redone the game
-Runemaster bit the dust
-CK2 keeps getting support even though it's painfully obvious the game can't handle more crap they're stacking on it

WHAT DO I WANT? COLD WAR! WHEN DO I WANT IT? NOW!

Speak for yourself about upsetting core customers if Rome or Vicky 3 is not announced. First and foremost on my list is a modern day Paradox Grand Strategy, whether that be Cold War, or something even more modern (and not SCI FI)

Plus, East v. West was cancelled

Don't agree at all - not that I wouldn't love a new Roman Empire game and I'm certainly looking forwards to Victoria 3 (which I'm confident is in development but not far along enough to show off yet) - but if they announce something like a Bronze Age GSG I'll still be very happy.

I think the reason last year was disappointing was that no new PDS games were announced. It doesn't have to be a specific sequel for me, but I want to see something which it seems we will.

Agree, any grand strategy game will be good, as long as it's not China. Chinese history is not my cup of tea and as such, I'll not be entertaining TW Three Kingdoms.

Well same thing happened last year and all they ended up announcing was....Third Rome............... So I wouldn't get my hopes up. At least we know it will be a whole new game this year.

At least this year they've had the courtesy of letting us now in advance that there won't be Vicky3 THIS year, and that was all I was really hoping for so whatever they announce will be fine for me (unless its a fantasy game, in which case I dont think I'll be interested) and so I can't be disappointed :D

But if Johan has been working on it I'm hopeful that most certainly it will be a game that I'll like (even if its fantasy or RPG again).

It could be classic reverse psychology, and Vicky 3 gets revealed in May. Either way, it builds excitement and attention, and that's what every developer wants.

gee totally no self-absorbed demands this thread. PDS might get so scared by the upcoming tidal wave of "backlash" they start developing Vicky 5 (yes, Victoria FIVE) AND ritualistically scalp Johan as penance.

What? Your sardonic response is meaningless. I think they'll survive our demands for more ways to give them money. Thanks though, White Knight.

Ehhh.... I want Vicky 3 to come when it's good and ready. Even after all this time, I think Vicky 2 holds up, and I'm worried about Vicky ending up like HOI if they rush it (substantial features of last game removed without a reasonable replacement leading to simulation issues for over a year after release).

I'm especially concerned about the economic simulation in Vicky 3. Paradox has had a simplification habit lately, and Vicky without a proper economic simulation isn't Vicky. 2's economic simulation wasn't perfect, but it was good enough that I voluntarily played pacifist (as in, 0 war declarations, 0 battles) games in Vicky 2. I have never done that in any other Paradox game, except for Stellaris, and had infinitely more fun in Vicky 2.

ohh sick burn. i'm quaking in my plate armor.

its annoying seeing these infantile thread posts that are just empty threats reminiscent of a 10-year old yelling in the store if he doesn't get his new toy he's been expecting RIGHT NOW. never mind that it takes several years to develop these games (at a minimum) before they're at the point where they're just beginning to be considered whether they're ready to unveil.

and before you go calling my response meaningless...

I only mean to point out the torch-and-pitchfork mob that will come if they host another dud like last year.

oh me oh my, someone cry for the forlorn swedes as their splendiferous capitol city (and PDXcon) is sacked and put to the torch because a game developer didn't unveil a shiny new game to the world on a suddenly imposed deadline by a gamer. oh the humanity!

sardonic enough yet?

Vicky2 holds up like a champ through, oh, the 1890's. It just doesn't pivot to the 20th century like it needs to, and like Paradox is more than capable now of making it. Ironically, one could argue its combat system is more fit for the 21st century than the 20th century, as the circumstances of the last couple major wars reverted back to Decisive Battles to some degree.

Yeah, the late game economic downturn is always rather disappointing. From the analysis on the Vicky 2 forum, it seems like the main problem is that the money supply just doesn't keep up with the game's growth, especially with every single GP hoarding cash at the same time.

Personally I felt the combat system was adequate, if nothing special. War is a secondary issue in Vicky, moreso than any other Paradox game. As much as I want every mechanic to be deep, complicated and engaging - we don't always get that.
