Dear All:

Good morning from Canada! I hope this finds you and yours well. As for me, I've got a few question myself about this game.

For openers, it's a great game. Granted, there are few historical errors, such as Washington dying in 1775. I would like to know how to perform the following actions: 1)How to put troops aboard ships? 2) How to 'vassalize' the Netherlands 3)To find the fastest way to the coast of Japan 4) Would be a good idea, as England, to put navies along the coast of India to ward off pirates? 5) Would it be a good idea to concentrate on my missions first and leave all those trade missions notices until later?

Please forgive me for sounding dim, but I want to learn as much about this game as possible. I figure that if I ask any 'veterans' of this game, I'll get some ideas from somewhere. Actually it _IS_ easier if you read the manual or at least play the tutorial for 30 min.

Greven is correct, the manual and tutorial are useful for openers. There is a table of contents available online for the manual. For more in depth information, the FAQs hosted by Hartmann or Huszics are very useful. For specific information not covered here, try searching the FAQ forum (which, BTW, is where this thread belongs in any case), since just about everything has been mauled over thoroughly at least once.

But since I'm here and posting:

1. Put your fleet out to sea, on the coastline of the province your troops are in. Then left-click on your troops, then right-click on the sea zone (you will see a grey 'X' as you hover over the sea-zone, ignore this). Your troops will generate a red movement arrow, turning green as they board.

2. You must have 190+ relations with them for 10 years and be in an alliance. Then ask nicely. If they decline, wait some more, keeping relations 190+, then ask again. They are not obliged to accept your offer, so be nice. This has been covered extensively in several threads, so there is much more info available.

3. Well, you need an explorer and his fleet. Then get looking. Since you come from the 21st century and already know where Japan is, you have the advantage over the original explorers.

4. Yes, if you can afford them and don't mind the natural attrition they will suffer.

5. Don't get too distracted by the missions set by your monarch. He doesn't always know best.
