*Sigh* Another earth animal portrait (Mantis Shrimp) called an "alien" portrait... It's getting annoying. At last it is free and don't look too bad.

I did everything step by step as you posted, but I didn't get a popup to connect my accounts (maybe because they're already connected?), and when I clicked on Multiplayer and logged in, everything was like before, with an exception that there is no more lobby in multiplayer where we can chat, and this new window:

Yeah, your account might have been connected already, could check that on the account settings I believe. We don't currently support changing your friends list picture, but we will continue developing the friends list and the ability to change it will probably be implemented later, we want to focus on making the MP as stable at the moment.
I think since the beta 1.6.1 is gone I didn't get an achievement for patron. I verified cache and that reset it to normal, I went back to load the beta 1.6.1 and it wasn't there so I downloaded this one.

I'm also feeling like artist responsible for portraits lacks imagination ;(

Really, more the time pass since launch more i see that added portraits are just more an more earth animals... I remember Wiz saying he want more "aliens that looks aliens" but we have just anthropomorphic shrimp, horses, peacock... The lack of imagination is getting annoying and if this continue i would like a checkbox for chose the portraits i want to see in game (a cute butterfly at space faring civilization level? Seriously...)
PS: I mean sure it's difficult to figure a lifeform out of earthlike standards and you surely are going to inspire yourself from earth animals but actually they are, for the majority of them, only anthropomorphic earth animals... come on!

I am not very thrilled. Paradox should focus the next several patches just on fixing bugs. No new features. No massive rebalancing, no goodies. Just fixing bugs. Maybe a dozend at a time. So we can even track the progress. 1.6 Patchnotes were nice and overwhelming, but there where so called "Fixed" bugs, that are still in game...
I am extremely pro-mantis shrimp based alien, I always thought the arthropoids should have a portrait inspired by them given how interesting they are.
The people involved with this are different from the people working on the gameplay patches, so we're not stealing resources from the game team
Could it be, that this new multiplayer-technology is the attempt to establish some sort of a test-platform for beta-patches ? ...

Okay, but what are exactly the features of this new multiplayer? Besides this account syncing and new friend list, I don't see anything new...
Enjoy them in 10 years from now you are going to only see them on videos/video games/pictures.
