I really like the DoH beach icon

213rpm9.jpg

So with help of forum members it is possible to use it in AoD. Please download this file and place it in gfx\map\ and voila. Here is the result:

I don't know what you mean by "don't show up properly ingame" (you might want to post the file you created so I could check it) but recently I've tried to improve AoD's beach.bmp file and I too ran into some problems. The key is that the file must be in 8bit color depth; AFAIK, this means a very small range of colours available. Since the DH icon seems to use more colors than allowed, this could cause the problem.

Yes I found out about 24bit <-> 8bit difference because of file size difference. I believe 8bit is simply 256 colors. I even managed to save the file in 8-bit standart but it's still showing in wrong colors. I mean it shows different colors ingame then in picture editing application.
I uploaded the file here
Oh and there are only 42 colors in this BMP.

Hmmm... I've fiddled with it a bit but wasn't able to work the problem out. That's very odd: it seems like you did everything correctly but still the file doesn't show in game as it should

I found out the original file from DoH and applied it to AoD. It works fine when it comes to background but it looks like this:

original file:

ingame view (fixed):

Oh-oh, do I see an interesting flag over there?

Back on topic: try copy-pasting directly in Paint (if you haven't already). This might help.

I fixed the flag. Sorry about that.

I tried Paint, Photofiltre, IrfanView. Tried rotating the RGB colors. The background shows well now, but the best result of beach I could get is on the picture. Help please :)

I've just tried replicating your procedure, cat, and I think the problem might be that you don't need (i.e. shouldn't have) a large beach icon. As far as I can recall, there is no 'beach-capacity' in AoD, so no distinction is required between large and small beaches. When I just dumped the DH beach strip into the AoD gfx/map folder it showed up in the AoD game just as it does in DH.

Got your pm cat. Okay, all I did was go to the Darkest Hour/Mods/Darkest Hour Full/gfx/map folder and make a copy of the beach strip - just as you seem to have done. I then went my Arsenal of Democracy/gfx/map folder and renamed the beach strip in there (so I could retrieve it if I wanted) and pasted in the strip from DH. Nothing else. It showed up fine.

Hope that helps.

Unfortunetly it still shows up like in my previous post. Let me clarify.
I copy: Darkest Hour/Mods/Darkest Hour Full/gfx/map/Beach.bmp
and paste inside: Arsenal of Democracy/gfx/map

Maybe you do something else, that you dont remember. 16bit colors?

Nope - did nothing else at all. Simply copied the 1632x37 bmp from DH and dumped it into the AoD gfx/map folder. I just repeated the procedure to make sure, and again it shows up fine. I'm using old technology (XP) with a Radeon 4850 card but I doubt that would have any effect on this particular issue. Sorry I can't be of more help.

With predefined size - 1632x37 bmp there is a chance the file size stays the same. Teaching you how to check MD5 or any other crc would take too long. The easiest option would be, if you could upload the file.

Thats uploaded graphics - what is in the file itself. I save it on my computer and I can change properties of the file.
Please upload the file itself. Try rapidshare/hotfile.

I'm afraid you're dealing with my ignorance here - when you say 'the file itself' to what are you referring? I'll be happy to oblige, but you'll need to be more specific in instructing me as to what you need and where I can find it.

You uploaded the content of the file, in this case graphics. I can only do "save image as" and when I do it, I can change parameters of the file. Just use the host sites I suggested, they only allow data file hosting.
