1 why build any ships besides first rate’s?(not counting troop transports)there more expensive and take longer to build, but the fact that there stronger means that should balance out.
2 why build any infantry besides guards? Same question as above expect with infantry, I’m assuming that cavalry and artillery have their own role, but I still see no reason to build line infantry and militia.
3 is there a way to see the provinces that other major powers need to win the game?

1. In the Med other units get bonuses,

2. Guards can be a large drain on manpower and other units allow different attack options.

3. Yes look under the dominance map mode and select a different nation. The collored provinces will change.

whats the med?

med = Mediterranean Sea

Galleys get +2 there (hover the mouse pointer over a sea area and if there is a + for a ship type there, it will tell you), same for the Black Sea and Baltic Sea.

I tend to agree with you, if you can afford it build 1st Rate SOL and transports and you probably can't go wrong.

But these other units - ships and troops - give some other options, so the build can depend on what option you are trying for.

sure it costs more man power, but unless there’s a advantage in numbers in this game, it should balance out If not why create guards?

also what does SAS mean with attack options?

The tactics for Guards only effect Guards, apart from the one on the furthest right.

A guard for Prussia at the start has a frontage of 7.2 while a line infantry takes only 2 so effectively 3 line infantry can attack the same Guard. Guards have .48 more attack.

So a full stack of guards up to the frontage limit of say 60 for a battle held on a plain is 8 brigades, and to make "Up the Guard" work you need 15% artillery, cavalry or light infantry. Lets say you take light infantry as they take up the least room frontage wise, now you get 2 lights and 7 guards per flank. A total of just 9.

Take the same 60 frontage and build a Infantry based army 25 brigades can fight per flank at once of just infantry. Say your going for entrenched defence a nice tactic that gives alot of bonuses you only need 60% infantry and 5% lights to activate it so 23 infantry and 2 lights so why not get some artillery in there 2 per flank you can get 20 infantry 2 lights and 2 artillery on each flank a total of 24.

As you can see number do eventually add up a infantry based army on a plain battlefield can get 15 more brigades to the front.

Sorry for being short on the first post was using my phone and typing is not fun.

DunkFunk, Not sure you will see this as rather old post but, being new, I was asking myself the same thing "bugger the infantry, I'll go with entire Guard army" but your explanation of how frontage work shows me this is not a good idea. I'm a hard core fan of HOI3 so I understand frontage and it appears MotE uses something quite the same. But, the question now is "Why not go with an all Line Infantry army?" more guns on the line (frontage)... The only thing I can think of is those Tactics which require a Guard unit, right? - Rick
