Was looking for something different, what are the best countries to play outside of Europe? Most fun, interesting, etc, and where it won't be too terribly hard to avoid getting destroyed by Europe. I'm still kinda new and don't really care about taking over the world or anything, jsut long-term survival and becoming a major local/minor world power. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

First of all the Ottomans, if you don't consider them European, then there's Morocco and Ethiopia, and I suppose playing as one of the Southeastern Asian countries would be fun too.
EDIT:Mataram and Ayutthaya sound like the best choices.

Thanks again. Also, I have the most recent (i think) version of Age of Timur, would it be better to start at a further back date (1337) to have more time to move sliders or should i go ahead and go with AGCEEP?

Vijayanagar -- conquer India long before those pesky Brits do it -- and get filthy rich in the process!
Timurid Empire (in 1419) -- Hold on for dear life and try to save your empire. Remember this being refreshingly challenging at the appropriate difficulty level.
Mataram -- If you want a naval-oriented campaign.

Yes, Matram can be really fun

True... :D But it's fine, no worries. We need as much activity as possible here in the FtG forum. Ask away all you want.

Northern Africa only, otherwise it will be way too boring from my experience. Sub-saharan countries are too isolated and with the worse tech group possible. Not worth it in my opinion.

Many countries in West Africa and the Horn are in the Muslim tech group.
BTW, we can add events like this one to improve a country's starting tech group:

Code:
#(1419-1819) Tech group improvement
event = {
	id = 88888888
	persistent = yes
	ai = no
	name = "Tech group improvement"
	desc = "With our recent changes in mindset our progress becomes every day greater"
        trigger = {
		NOT = { tech = latin }
		domestic = { type = innovative value = 10 }
		stability = 3
		}

	date = { day = 1 month = january year = 1419 }
	offset = 60
	deathdate = { day = 1 month = december year = 1819 }

	action_a = {
		name = "Continue"
		trigger = { tech = orthodox }
		command = { type = stability value = -6 }
		command = { type = technology which = latin }
		command = { type = domestic which = innovative value = 0 }
	}
	action_b = {
		name = "Continue"
		trigger = { tech = muslim }
		command = { type = stability value = -6 }
		command = { type = technology which = orthodox }
		command = { type = domestic which = innovative value = 0 }
	}
	action_c = {
		name = "Continue"
		trigger = { tech = asian }
		command = { type = stability value = -6 }
		command = { type = technology which = muslim }
		command = { type = domestic which = innovative value = 0 }
	}
	action_d = {
		name = "Continue"
		trigger = { tech = african }
		command = { type = stability value = -6 }
		command = { type = technology which = asian }
		command = { type = domestic which = innovative value = 0 }
	}
	action_e = {
		name = "Continue"
		trigger = { tech = pagan }
		command = { type = stability value = -6 }
		command = { type = technology which = african }
		command = { type = domestic which = innovative value = 0 }
	}
	action_f = {
		name = "Statu quo"
	}
}

Perhaps I made a mistake but the idea is there.
