So I purchased CK2 from Amazon and got it running on my laptop... barely. I came by these forums and saw the suggestion to turn off trees. It worked great, the game ran much better. But I would still like it run a bit better. What other tweaks have big payoffs in terms of performance?

Adding more memory is the big one, jumping from 2gb to 4gb for instance. I haven't checked user Mods for a while, I know with EU3 someone made a low-performanec mod that simplified the graphics - if there is such a thing for CK2 that might help you.

It certainly makes a difference -- just remember to run the game in political map mode, not terrain.

Make sure to use the FlatMap and TrueMute.zip version, as it offers the most noticeable performance boost.
