Well citizens to rp to 3.0 (someone said it was meant to be divided by 3.0... although all mods usually have this lower) is what vanilla is meant to be. My mod is ofcourse best for a newbie to try out.

You lie V_V ! My mod is best for a newbie to try out (despite fixing no bugs and, probably, increasing the difficulty) V_V !

Joking aside, you should probably use a research bugfix if you're using 1.1 (I'd recommend applying it yourself instead of downloading a mod), and no others, until you have a good idea of what you do or do not need to apply.

Lies, filthy, filthy lies...mine is superior so there.
Just look at the much bigger link, it must be better

All of the mods are in quite early development, to be honest - but the vanilla game is in many ways quite rough-cut , so even if there is a howler in one of the mods, there is probably a an equivalent error in the vanilla game.

I'd suggest you play the game vanilla first (with a research fix) and see what you like/dislike about it. Then pick a mod which suits your inclinations. We are already starting to see mods which are working on reducing micromanagement while some are increasing it, some try to make it more historical, others less, some fix "ping-pong warfare" and others leave it untouched.

Funny that only mod creators answers in here, I couldn't resist :p

I'd advice to try vanilla (1.1 is a must) as well, but except modifying Citizen_to_RP ratio, try to use mercs.txt and morecivilwar.txt that fix very annoying civil war bug. AFAIK TheLand's SPQR and mine Mikrokosmos contain this files modified...

I'd give vanilla a shot first, but you might want to consider making an adjustment to the research rate. Make sure you have the latest patch, too. This way you'll be better able to choose from all the terrific mods that seem to be popping up like bunnies around here!

I'll recommend vanilla first. You will properly discover that research is very slow after a game or two, but for learning how the game engine works vanilla is fine. Also if you havn't tried vanilla, you will have nothing to judge the mods against.

(nodsnods) After all, micromanagement is just empty busywork unless it's made to matter ^_^ . If we're to hand-pick every governor, there needs to be distinct reasons beyond a high finesse or charisma ^_^ .

"Wait a minute... Why did I just appoint the head of the opposition faction to the governorship of Memphis?"

Well, indeed, which is why I look forward to stealing your work.

:p

Most mods here are small, they are all good and won't do anything to make the game too hard.
If it was something like Magna Mundi, you would really want to play vanilla first.

I would say go ahead and try some.

my personal suggestion would be to use 2.5 rate for that

I was just about to ask the same as OP before my first game. It is recommended here to play vanilla with research speed bug corrected. OK, but I´m not completely certain how to fix it..

I have changed (in defines.txt file) the value of #_CDEF_CITIZENS_TO_RP_, line to 2.5.

Can you tell me if this is the correct alteration?

Yes

It's correct, but 2.5 sounds a hair high to me... I'd recommend 2.2 or 2.3.
