A buddy and I are using hammachi to play coop games. What's a good voice utility? Teamspeak? Any suggestions are appreciatead.

The best way to communicate in game remains the TAB key.

Never good to play multiplayer games with other applications running in the background.

LAG is your worth enemy.

In general - the less programs and processes are running, the lower is the chance for potential problems. But issue mentioned by WW is mostly problem of older/weaker machines. What is really important for stability while running other program during HoI2 mp/sp (or any other paradox game), is:
  • CPU and memory of your PC
  • connection bandwidth other processes use

If you have computer with 1+GB RAM, there should be no problem to have teamspeak/icq/whatever running while playing HoI2. Sure, unless it is really intensive CPU/memory program...

Also, when considering intercom, you should be shure your up/down speed is enough to cover both HoI2 and other processes. HoI2 can be confortably played on 128kbit up speed, and there's also reserver then. If you have 192 or 256, you can most probably run teamspeak or suchlikes with no problems. Providing you have strong enough machine (see above).

It is little different when hosting, but in general it is the same principal.

For clan use i use Teamspeak, however i prefer ventrilo for overall sound quality. A good machine is however preferable, as weaker machines tend to crash more often, as strange and illogical that may sound.

Skype

A buddy and I use Skype with no problems. The downside is that we both have pretty good P4's and have to slow the game waaaaay down to stay in sync. I am not sure how much bandwidth is use by Skype. We use Skype in combination with Hamachi.

Cheers,
Mike

I use Skype too, its better than TS... Me and my friend were talking through both at the same time...big lag on TS...It does not cause any lag for me...I even use it when I play MOH :D
No Lag even with 5 way talks....

We in the High Command Group have Mandatpory with Teamspeak for all players.

We have never experiensed any problems with it.

1 Channel for Axis
1 Channel for Allies

Works perfect during the game, and perfect during the pre-planned gaming phase, and useble in the between sessions planning phase.

Teamspeak is a perfact sulution
