Best way to "get into" SOTS2?

I so want to love this game, but every time I fire it up it's just like a brick wall and I have no concept of the best way to start to learn and enjoy and understand the thing. The beginner's guide is a good start, but even it's 50 pages and dense as grandma's stale fruitcake.

For those of you who have been able to really "get" the game, do you have any advice for helping a total noob get a decent foothold in the game? It's not like I'm foreign to 4x or anything -- but as someone else said, something like Endless Space you can just fire up and figure out pretty easily just by playing. SOTS2, no chance. It's like it's not sure if it wants you to play it or not.

That's how i do it. I play it, and every time i feeli don't understand something, i go to this wiki:

It's really well done, and you can begin by reading some things like "economy" or "research".

Learnong this game is hard. But if you're one of the people who enjoy seeing themselves getting better and understand things, it's very rewarding. On my 3rd game, i had my techs twice as fast ,as in the second one, because i managed my trade better. Awesome feeling.
