Assume you have the tech to build any wonder you want right now, but the resources to only build one for the moment. Which do you build first?

I say it comes down to either Space Elevator or Mohole, as both are incredibly versatile, particularly insofar as they enable you to rapidly ramp up your economy in any direction you choose. But which should come first?

We all know the giant radar dome that gives new breakthroughs will be the top pick :D.

Yeah, either the Omega Telescope (breakthroughs and 20% research bonus are awesome) or the Artificial Sun (more for the fact I'm a Dark Souls fan and I always think of the "Praise the Sun!" line whenever I see the wonder... Along with poor Solaire's desire to have his own sun) if I could only pick one.

The Mohole, hands down.

Infinite resources, no staff, cheap maintenance. It lets you top off two shuttles every three days with rare metals, allowing you to buy pretty much whatever you need. Or, with the sheer amount of metals and rare metals, your factories can easily make what you need. It will easily fund pretty much every single thing you need done. The rest are nice and useful, the Mohole is a giant "DONE" stamp on your colony.

While that is a very enjoyable one, it doesn’t facilitate the building of anything else the way Mohole and Space Elevator do.

The Mohole for me. Always. For a simple reason, you have more buildings asking for metal maintenance than concrete maintenance and you probably have not depleted all concrete deposits of the map by that time.
You can go build spots in the middle of nowhere to get and transport concrete but you've probably depleted all non-underground metal and need to rely on human mining to get it. Plus mohole give you rare metals to ship back and get money.

That said, i did the mohole then the excavator shorttly after in one of my games.

The Mohole - as it make gathering resources for the other ones easier.
Second I build the Giant radar or the Space elevator - depending on resources. and needs.
If I build the space elevator I probably can ship all rare resources from the Mohole and buy everything for the radar after that, so that´s most likely the order if I ain´t suffering of to little science.

Excavator is probably the worst wonder, only because you can get concrete in abundance no matter what you're doing by the time you can build wonders. Space Elevator is probably the #2 best wonder, on the other hand. Nearly instant and economical resource transfer between you and the rest of humanity? Yes please.

The Mohole was always iffy for me... If you needed a lot of electronics but little metal (as might be the case if you're using scrubbers to cut down maintenance costs) the Mohole might quickly become useless since your demand for Rare Metals is so much higher than your demand for Metals. Since it produces both, it stops production the instant there's no more room for one or the other and you can't set it to only mine one.

Build your scrubbers to support each other. Then, your electronics maintenance is almost nothing, aside from the occasional scrubber not doing its job.

You just need drones and storages to empty your metal somewhere.

The issue is if you don't need that kind of production anymore and never will need it for some reason. Having one wonder produce two resources but shut off when one is filled means if you only need one, you have to fill the map with storage depots for the other in order to actually get what you need. Rare Metals you can get away with by exporting them everywhere, but there's no interior buildings that need metals or machine parts for maintenance, so if you use a lot of scrubbers metal quickly becomes something you only need for construction projects.

Unless you have fusion reactors up and running you still need a lot of metals to fix your solar panels but i don't see the issue to store them a bit if you don't do anything with them. Mostly all is about having enough drones nearby to not let pile up on the extractor. Shuttles help too.
You could do more machine parts factories to turn that metal into machine parts and avoid exporting them.

Tribolectric Scrubbers reduce maintenance costs of all buildings in their area (except that specific scrubber) to near-zero. If you litter them around your base, you don't need Metal to maintain anything beyond pipes and cables. Also, since Rare Metals are the only resource you can actually export, the last suggestion is a moot point; if you use the Scrubbers to reduce maintenance you don't need metal that much and no in-dome buildings need machine parts, so both metals and machine parts will pile up with nothing to do with them. I actually asked a few times during the stream on the release day if it'd be possible to export more than just Rare Metals eventually, and the fact that we can overproduce fairly easily and never use everything we make is a clear example of why they need to either give us that ability, reduce production, or give us a way to dispose of unneeded materials.

I don't disagree with anything you've said to improve the game but i don't get your issue with your mohole. If you want your mohole to constantly work to make rare metals just create a shitload of storages and give it enough idle drones to get rid of any new metal appearing. It's not an issue with the building for me.
If you've scrubbers everywhere, just use your metal and machine parts to continue building on the whole map i don't know.

You do realize you can just keep laying down metal storage forever, right? :p

Or better yet, go with mostly solar power that isn't covered by scrubbers so that it's constantly violating the laws of physics by making the metal disappear into the nether.

I like the Artificial Sun for the first to build. Lots of power + nighttime solar panels + ground heating = great

Next I'd say the Space Elevator for easier exports and imports.

I restart after I've achieved the milestones as making a huge colony just looks tedious so this makes the Mohole and its perpetual supply meaningless for my playstyle.
