Don't get me wrong, I already played with the correct login + password. It's just that when I entered it today I noticed it told me "wrong password" and judging from remarks made earlier in this thread I was wondering if that msg would also appear when the login server is down.

i said the demo is now OPEN FOR ALL you dont have to pay money (only youre soul)
i know one must make sacrifices in life but i don't want to subscribe either...drat...

let me ask yet another question, let's call it 3)

3) now that the cats out of the bag and the beta is no longer bound by non-disclosure, can the download be posted here or would someone email it to me if, say, susana says it's ok?

it's so ugly

i got the beta and it's as bad as few screenshots of the actual game show -- the map and main interface is so ugly. there's nothing more ugly than bad computer graphics. EU one and two were really beautiful -- the maps looked like maps and each interface was different and interesting.

i know that might seem kind of arty of me, but all these wars and empires went to build a culture of shared awareness, and this game seems to share something just after pacman and before 3D garden planner. pretty disappointing. i own but don't play EU3 because it's the first of the uglies, and i won't buy this one. the new HOI 3 looks like it's going to stay simple and map-like, and i'll get it. i also just bought Anno 1404 and it's so beguiling that it's always diverting just to look at it -- i play these things five or six hours at a time -- you wouldn't want to watch faded old cammo-patterned boxer shorts for five hours at a time, even if the patterns blinked at you from time to time. neither do i.

I can live with signing up at FilePlanet to get to the demo, but I'm not going to install a downloader software from a website that I've not trusted for years now in order to actually download the files. They were able to implement their bullshit "queue" system to try and sell paid subscriptions for years without whatever kind of malware they're pushing now, so I'm pretty sure it should still be possible.

Why does Paradox need to involve such an unsavoury business partner in the first place? Surely hosting the file cannot be that much of a burden; Gamersgate has to push a lot more data than a single beta around.

You shouldn't need to download any software at all, with Firefox for me it just defaults to an in-browser queue.

As for the login and password..I received no such e-mail with that information. Might be a bit slow on Fileplanet's part, I'll give it another check later.

Edit: d'oh, didn't notice it on the key page.

You do have to install a downloader software (it has been so for several years now...), but since you haven't installed it I wonder how can you claim that it pushes malware on your PC. Also if you're so good at protecting your PC you can remove it without problems, right ?

I am completely spewing on this beta! It doesn't say before you download that you must have a paid account at all and then nearly 900 megs later you find out the hard way when you try to install! Why even make it available to download for free if you are not going to let anyone install it for free! SHAME ON YOU GUYS! What a waste of money (yes my internet connection requires money! Doesn't yours?! and time... a colossual waste of time!
