Big Trouble in Nationalist China-Part XXXXIII-Situation in the North

Situation in the North

New Minister of Security Chiang Ching-Kuo addressed the ministers.

“Our biggest threat is war with the Comintern,” said Chiang Ching-Kuo. “This may be something not of our doing. Chairman Stalin has been known to force the issue to make major gains. It also is his goal to spread communism worldwide. We must remain vigilant on our borders.”

New Chief of Staff Chief of Staff, Chiang Pai-Li, was next to address the ministers with a rundown of Nationalist China’s northern defenses.

Disposition of forces, west to east:

Kashi Province (near USSR and Afghanistan borders)—Three armored divisions under the command of General Lu Chung-Lin, a former minister of war.

Urumqi Province (near USSR and Mongolian borders to the west)—Four divisions of infantry under General Chang Chi-Chung. Seven divisions of mechanized infantry under the command of Field Marshal Tang Sheng-Chih (The Buddhist General). Tang Sheng-Chih had once been a rival of Chiang Kai-Shek and was a leading military person in Wuhan. Originally from Hunan.

Anxi Province—Three armored divisions under the command of Field Marshal Chen Chi-Tang. He is a former minister of Agriculture and Forestry and a member of the standing committee of the Kuomintant Central Executive Committee.

Hohot Province (fronting eastern Mongolia)—Three armored divisions under Field Marshal Chang Huseh-Liang. The Young Marshal, a former military governor of Manchuria, was at the head of the attempt to force Chiang Kai-Shek to cooperate with the Communists at Xian. Historically, he was sentenced to a house arrest that lasted for over 50 years. He lived to be 100, dying in Hawaii in 2001.
In the AAR, the Young Marshal was disgraced after the Xian Incident, but was recalled to command forces and has done an exellent job in commanding troops since that time.

Hailer Province (near USSR and Mongolian borders to the east)—Six mechanized infantry divisions under General Hsueh-Yueh. His is a former chairman of the government in Guizhou Province.

Orogen Zizhiqi Province (wedged between NE Mongolia and USSR)—Six mechanized infantry divisions under the command of Field Marshal Ho Ying-Chin (new Chief of Army).

Nenjiang Province—12 mechanized infantry divisions under the command of Field Marshall Wei-Hwang. (”Hundred Victories” Wei Li-Huang?)

Hegang Province—Six squadrons of tactical bombers under the command of Lieutenant General Liang Tien-Cheng.

Jiamusi Province—Three divisions of paratroopers (with transports) under command of Lieutenant General Tung Tsung-Shan.

Jixi Province—Three divisions of infantry under the command of Genral Pang Ping-Hsun, a former chairman of the government of Hebei Province.

Troop Movements

Tonghug Province (Korean border)—Three armored divisions under the command of General Chan Fa-Kuei. Will relocate to Jixi Province.

Harbin Province (Manchuria)—12 armored divisions under the command of Field Marshal Chiang Kai-Shek. Will relocate to Jiamusi Province.

Additional movements will rebase four mechanized infantry divisions from Xianyung Province to Hegang Province. Three infantry divisions will rebase from Congqing Province to Baotou Province.

Update on Production

Under Production—12 armored divisions, six mountain divisions, six infantry divisions and 24 mechanized infantry divisions.

In the event of war with Comintern:

War Plan “Water Buffalo”
USSR currently has no troops in Chavarvsk, opening up a route along the Amur River to the sea. A quick drive along the river would cut off 27 divisions south of the river in the Vladivostock region.

Use of Atomic Weapons:
Tactical Nukes—Only by authorization of Chief of Army Ho Ying-Chin to help to stabilize any breakthroughs by Comintern forces. It is preferable that weapons not be expended on Chinese soil. Likely targets are Soviet follow-on forces.

Strategic Nukes—in the event of war, Comintern capitals are to be targeted followed by any large troop concentrations (preferably in non-urban areas).

Final authorization for any attacks must come from Head of State or Head of Government!!!

Current Score
Victory Points—Allied 627, Comintern 350, Axis 0.

Hey battleline, don't steal my images from my snakeplissken website :D

Just kidding, good AAR.

Jack_Deth,
Thanks for stopping by the AAR. I can use all the fans I can get for this one! I would love to see the view numbers go higher.
Is that from your site? If so, thanks. I do have one Snake site bookmarked, but I don't remember where I got that pic from. Most of the time, I just Google image search to find some images to plug into the AAR.
Working on my last AAR, 2Coats encouraged me to use a lot of graphic images to make my AARs better.

Since you are a Snake fan, anything you would like to see him do later in the AAR? How about the BTLC crew? Anyone else you want to see in this AAR. I'm always open for suggestions!:D

Thanks,
Battleline

Big Trouble in Nationalist China-Part XXXXIV-Sitzkrieg

Just Do Something!

David Lo Pan was angry. Forced to wait in the outer office of Chiang Kai Shek, the head of the Wing Kong Exchange was eager to complete his quest to become “whole again.”

Since the curse apparantly hadn’t been lifted when Nationalist China conquered Tibet, Sianking, Manchukuo, etc., that meant one of two things: either Mongolia must be added to the list, or the curse simply couldn’t be lifted.

Mulling over his adventures, to himself he admitted it was a fun trip back to the past. Perhaps it was a crank call that started the entire quest. Maybe he would just pack up and start looking for a woman with green eyes. . .

Suddenly the door opened. But instead of Chiang Kai-Shek, the person who emerged was his son, Chiang Ching-Kuo. The minister of security motioned for Lo Pan to enter the office.

“All you have to do is invade Mongolia,” said Lo Pan. “I’m certain that will meet my quest.”

“I wish it were that simple,” said Chiang Ching-Kuo while pulling down a map. “Here is our situation. As you can see, we have large amounts of troops massed on the borders of Mongolia and the USSR.”

“Yes, so what is the problem?” asked Lo Pan.

“Mongolia is aligned with the USSR and a part of the Comintern,” said Chiang Ching-Kuo. “If we would invade part of the alliance, the other parter would join the conflict in support of its partner. We are confident we have the edge in troop abilities, but they have a great number of men massed on our borders, not only here but also in Europe.

“We are afraid that if we try to grab a nation of sand and mountains, we will start another world war, one that might have even greater consequences,” said Chiang Ching-Kuo. “Our allies would honor their agreement and go to war once again against the communists. The ends do not justify the means.”

“But it would meet my goal,” said Lo Pan. “You wouldn’t be here in this position without me.”

“We realize your contributions to our society have been valuable,” said Chiang Ching-Kuo. “That’s why we are trying some options that have a lower profile, but could achieve the same success.”

“I hope you are correct,” siad Lo Pan. “We have nearly reached the end of our time in this era. Our scientists tell us we must return to our own time by the start of the 1948 calendar year.”

Political Pressure
As more divisions were assembled and hastily sent north after being trained, a need for resources soon emerged.

“We’re going through oil faster than a ’74 Gremlin,” said Jack Burton, who just returned from another truckin’ convoy of hauling the black gold. “And rubber is being used faster than a NASCAR race.”

That wasn’t all. Coal was being consumed at record rates as well. Unfortunately, there hadn’t been a more energy-effective way to create energy. The only option was to buy and sell on the world market to make sure there would be enough raw materials to support the booming economy and the growning number of troops.

Troop creation actually was winding down. The final additions to the armed forces were planned to be four more capital ships. The two additional nuclear battleships had to be scrapped, but two aircraft carriers, the Hai’Yung and Hai’Shew were still on course for completion in the fall of 1947.

Starting in late 1945, Mongolian diplomats were wined and dined in the Nationalist Chinese capital. The benefits of capitalism were shown to the ambassadors and ideas sent back home.

The political pressure was starting to get to the Mongolians. On Nov. 27, 1946, a bloodless coup brought a Paternal Autocratic goverment to power in Ulan Bator.

Not much later, military access was gained and the Nationalist Chinese now had another path into the USSR, should war be declared. Also, Mongolian forces got a good hard look at why they shouldn’t start any trouble with the Nationalist Chinese forces to the south.

The Final Act
The uneasy truce between the Allies and Comintern continued through 1947. The Allies were unwilling to start a war that would lead to more devastation in Europe and elsewhere. The USSR stood alone against threats on all sides, unwilling to throw untested troops into combat against a technologically superior foe.

Also, Uncle Joe Stalin seemed to be alergic to having a nuclear-tipped missle land on his front lawn. No sir, that would not be a very good day for the leader of the communist world!

Hai’Yung and Hai’Shew were launched together Sept. 21, 1947. Their placement into the Nationalist Chinese fleet was a good excuse for a naval showcase at Shanghai, where the fleed was reparceled into two strong task forces of one battleship and one carrier each to go along with numerous nuclear crusiers and improved destroyers.

The last “modern” equipment from the Wing Kong Exchange was moved back into the future by Jack Burton. Doc Brown made one final check of the entire warehouse to make sure everything was out.

Lo Pan had gotten word that he needed to wait for a final decision on his situation back in 1985.

When 1947 came to an end, the Allies were declared the winners with 627 points. The Comintern had 350 points between the USSR and a no-longer communist Mongolia.

The Axis powers had no points. Of course, Germany had been parceled between a number of different powers. Berlin existed under the hammer and sickle. Italy was property of the United States of America. Japan was the only one of the Axis powers to exist, although it was as a puppet of Nationalist China.

Epilogue—What they Did After the AAR. . .
