Hey all,
I don't really know if this belongs here or in the bug forum, so I'm sorry if this is stepping on anyone's toes.

I've been having some strange start up problems lately. The game has a tendancy to freeze immediately after or right before the bink video avi program begins. I'm pretty sure that the Bink program is causing the problem. This I learned from disabling the program.....EUII started up perfectly fine after that (minus the intro that is). The question is....why is Bink video confusing my computer? Please someone help me. I tire of having to fiddle around with my task manager just to start a game. <sigh> Where's Bill Gates when you actually want him around?

Here are my computer specs: Windows XP (newly installed), >20GB of hard drive space, 512 MB DDR RAM, 8x DVD/CD ROM, Geforce 3 video card, and a 1400 GHz Athlon processor

Thanks for any help you can give.

I had a feeling that XP was the culprit. I bought XP with the purpose of fixing some of my computer problems. I should have known it would cause new ones.

Does Bink-player work when XP is running in compatibility mode? Otherwise I suggest trying to get the latest patches and so on, until the big boys start responding.

Yay! I just noticed my promotion. Now I can order around all you privates and recruits. muwahahahahaha

Just delete the sonofabitch folder. program files\strategy first\europa universalis 2\avi.

Fixes it 100% of the time. :)

Well, I moved the folder out of the EUII folder, so currently it's no longer part of the start up. However, I would prefer to fix the problem than to simply go around it.

Well, it's not only XP, as I've had my share of Bink trouble with my windows ME version  . Main problem was "video mode not supported", and then CTD. The annoying thing is that it's totally random.

I just renamed my avi folder. Do you really want to watch the videos every time before you play anyway? You are just waisting valuable playing time :)

I have this exact "video mode not suppported" problem running Windows 98. Goes away when I reboot the machine, but it is a pain.

Thanks JohnMK, will move stupid avi folder!!!!
