Seems to me that biorobots - manufactured in the drone assembly building - shouldn't have flaws like humans. Also, many are produced already knowing a specialization (engineer, scientist, geologist, etc), yet some have no specialization. If we can build them, why can't we build them flawless, and with exactly the specialization we want/need?

I'm confused.
 
I did get it through a breakthrough tech, but my colony has no geologists, and when I "ordered" some biorobots, I got a few geologists. Also, at the time I "ordered" them, none of my colonists had any of the 7 flaws that a sanatorium can fix, since I had treated everyone by that point.
 
Feels like a bug, or at least a mistake for sure.

I'd consider them if you could assign specialization and they had no flaws, but currently they're too expensive just to get some extra workers.
The fact that they're born as adults and never die is not enough to justify that 5 Electronics cost to me.
 
i always thought of it like generating an artificial consciousness is kind of a random process, like if u try and make perfect ones they wouldn't be viable...

anyways according to opportunity patch notes, they no longer come with specializations (but i take it they still have flaws though)
 
Humans aren't free. You have to feed them while they are not productive children and seniors. That is a cost the biorobots don't carry. They are also 'reliable' workers in the sense you don't have to replace them (and carry the cost of training the replacement) when they die. They don't take up nursery or school slots either, meaning you require less, reducing your costs further.
 
They are not. You need to feed them while they are children and after they turn senior (although the latter has ... a solution). You also need to spec them over and over again. Sure, short term it's no-brainer. 2-3 generations of humans and then you start new game. But long term they beat humans hand down.

This reminds me of how cloning actually doesn't "clone" your colonists as of the last time I tried it. it just spawns a random new colonist regardless of if you'd have the genetic code for a colonist with that appearance (specifically, you can try to make an all male/all female colony and still get female and male clones respectively) in a way that makes no sense.
