I've just reformatted my computer with a fresh WinXP installation and updated my drivers, etc. I then installed CK, re-downloaded my Deus Vult purchase from GamersGate, and when I open the DV install folder, the two setup files are showing up as VLC media player (my main video/audio player) files, and I can't open them or the .dat file to actually install the game. Kind of a weird problem, and I can't figure out what I need to do or what I'm missing to run the DV installer, but if anyone has any ideas I'll appreciate it!

Sounds more like a GamersGate problem

.dat is just a file extension for any type of data, not just video data. Ignore the files.

Gamersgate downloads .dat files, which are compressed files containing the game data. You must launch the install from within Gamersgate itself, it will then create and launch the setup application which will expand these files as it installs the game.

After downloading DV, the 'download' button under 'my downloads' should turn into 'Install'. Click that.

Thanks to both of you for the responses, jordarkelf fixed it for me, I just totally missed that giant, obvious "INSTALL" button on the gamersgate downloader

Thanks again for the help!
