The Black Death was followed by a host of epidemics though.

While Norway was settled to almost every mountain top in 1340, there was no contest for land post 1350 up until the 16th and 17th century. Why? There was enough land for almost everyone.

My educated guess (and deep surge through my memory) tells me that the Hundred Years war also co-incided with the aftermath of the Plague. I'm fairly sure there were several other minor wars as well.

You are probably right..

Perhaps during these years 'corpses' is a viable source of ammunition for sieges. :D

I don't recall...how bad the plague hit byzantium and the east..we always hear about it in context of western europe.

Were any kingdoms, duchies, dynasties, et al broken by the plague?

I can very clearly imagine all members of a local dynasty falling to the plague and being annexed by another branch so to speak.

The plague will be a terrible and exciting event. So much to gain, so much to lose.

The Black Death took place right in the midst of the Hundred Years War - shortly after the Battle of Crecy to be exact.

Eastern Europe and the Middle East were hit just as badly by the plague as Western Europe. The Black Death originated in the Russian Steppes, and was carried through Constantinople on its way west. It also traveled along the trade routes of the east, reaching places like Egypt and Arabia...

The dynasty most affected by the Black Death was Muscovy - the Grand Prince and much of his family died from it, though many dynasties suffered fatalities, of course...

In Kaffa, Crimea, not on the steppes. And Russia proper was surprisingly badly affected, compared to southwestern areas.

And my dear Maur, where did it come to Kaffa from? Not from the sea - there would have been some record of that in other seaports. It had to have come from the land - and what is beyond the Crimea? The steppes, of course...

I wrote "Russian Steppe" not "Ukrainian". Looking at the map, what country is the Kuban Steppe in? :D ;) :p
