Black screen while loading a new city

Expected Result​

I disabled the mods and reinstalled the game

Actual Result​

When I launch a new city, the loading time stops to give way to a black screen followed by an error message telling me to file a crash report

Steps to reproduce​

I haven't played for a long time, wanting to play again I'm faced with this problem

Please gather both these two informational files, and attach them here:

...\Steam\steamapps\common\Cities Skylines\Cities Data\output_log.txt

DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the task bar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.


IF dxdiag.txt fails to attach here, rename it to dxdiag.log , or zip it up. Thanks.

I'm afraid you have a bit of work in front of you! Basically your 8gb is the minimum to run the game; you're probably using other apps which take up memory, not to mention Windows itself does too. Windows is trying to swap that other stuff out to disk (paging file) but there's no room on C: to do that.

So you first need to clear space on C and preferably D: also. Then expand your Windows paging file maximum size to at least 32gb

Optional: Increasing the paging file size on Windows computers

On computers that have 8 GB of RAM, the suggested paging file size is 16 GB.

That file can be on C: or D: or across both, Windows doesn't mind.

AND exit every other app you can before starting the game. I'd suggest you start looking at more system memory, go to 16gb at least if you can.
