Ive tried just about everything. I reinstalled steam. Reinstalled the game. Updated windows. Updated drivers. Moved steam to a different drive. Uninstalled and reinstalled the C++ redistributables.

Anything else to try or we just sit and wait? Ive never had a problem with a game before.

that thread also deals with a ""Steam initialization has failed beyond repair or you do not own the game" error, so it might be an idea to just move all the black screen game courser stuff here though.
 
My issue is starting the game, getting a black screen with cursor but no sound.

I get a cursor and a black screen. No sound or anything.

I found someone else who had the same issue as us who said he fixed it by reinstalling the 2013 C++ redistributable but i did that and it didnt work. Im really out of things to try.

Yeah I tried that but it didn't work for me. I really want to play I've just got nothing left to try.
 
In the same boat as all of you guys. black screen, cursor, no sounds. I've posted in the other thread and yesterday morning, there was someone helping. however since lst night have not seen any help.
TotalyMoo did post on a thread earlier today that the devs are aware of the issue and are working on it. I've tried the -windowed, c++, removed steam, re-installed, everything that has been mentioned. Getting very frustrated now.
After Simcity2013 and all the frustrations with EA over it's release was hoping Cities Skylines would be much better for me. I do see the release has gone much better/even good for most people. Sadly it is not the case for those of us with this problem.
Hopefully some communication as to what is going on will be posted soon, although it's probably too late tonight to expect anything.
 
Hasn't fixed my issue either, I uninstalled the vcredist_64 and _86 and reinstalled from the microfsoft website. Still having same issue :(

weird thing is the vcredist_x64 and 86 from microsoft is an older release then what came with the game through steam...10.0.30319 vs 10.0.40219.325

I fixed it on my own. Heres what i did.

I removed ALL of the C++ distributable files in the add/remove programs in control panel. Then i reinstalled the 2010 and 2013 redistributable x64 c++ packages off google. Then i tried the game and it just worked. Took 10 minutes.
