I had a look at the blender files
Besides the actual model there seem to be objects defining certain points. Has anyone figured out what they mean, for example how to position stockpiles, colonist workplaces or similar?
Also, how do animations of buildings need to be defined and named?
 
I'm just guessing, but I think the points are for pathfinding of the AI. I'm not too experienced in modding and game development, so it's just a guess.
