This may not be a good post for the FAQ masters, but I have to ask: does anyone else see the Habsburgs annexing the Pope militarily all the time? I ask because I'm seeing it happen quite often, and it is very disturbing. Whether the Spanish side or the Austrian side of the family, they usually march right in and take out the Pope before 1600. I know we should be able to change history, but it is absurd for staunchly Cathlic countries to annex the Pope without some kind of serious stability loss. I've even see CRC countries annex the Pope! Has anyone else seen this happen alot? And do you think it really is as bizarre as I think it is?

Don't see it too often but it can happen. The papal states are just another odinary state in a long list. Not a very strong one at that so they can easily be annexed. Often allied with France which tends to fights Habsburgs.

Don't worry, this should be handled much better in EU 2 :D

At least for now u can't diplo annex them :D

I think it is called irony :D
Btw, sure Pope can't have weddings, he has that 'celibate' (how the hell do you say that in English :D)

Um, the Pope can't marry. He has to be celibate.

RM and the pope

Why can't the Papal States have a RM ? The pope cannot marry, I know that, but often is told that a RM doesn't mean the monarch marries himself, but sends a member of the royal family.
Why can't the pope send a nephew or uncle to a country for a RM ?

Even more to the point, RMs are supposed to represent a whole class of "friendship agreements" and nothing should stop the Papacy from entering those. (Although inheriting it as a result would be a little odd.)

Why there is no RMs with the Papcy

It is my understanding, (correct me if I'm wrong) that the reason the Pope AND The Knights do not have RMs is to prevent certain things from occuring. The first being unhistorical vassalization and annexing. The second being the random "inheritance" event. Yes, it would be bizarre to "inherit" the papacy, since it was (and still is) an elected post in which the College of Cardinals chooses the next Pope. Historically, there is nothing wrong with the Papacy having RMs with anyone, as the Popes did marry off family members all the time. In this case, it is something that is a game mechanic to prevent truly unhistorical events from occuring.

I mean, honestly, if France vassalized and then annexed the Papacy, you could immediately expect A) a war with the rest of Catholic Europe and B)the Catholic population going into revlot at having their beloved Pope treated so poorly. (This assumes that everyone recognizes the diplo-annex for what it really is.) The Huegneots would probably laugh themselves to death, thus reducing the population of certain provinces exponetially. And of course England would be sitting back and enjoying the show, waiting until war exhaustion sets in, in France, so they could invade across the Channel and sack Normandy, Brittany, and Calias. Bloody English....
