The one thing missing for me right now is that often I can't see WHY something is happening, or why I can't do something. Whenever it has to do with opinion modifiers, I can see how the game is working - for example, a character has a high AI greed stat, so he won't accept to ransom his wife even though he loves her very much (though not enough, apparently).
But when I try to check to see why I'm getting so much money for ransoms/demand payment for hooks now, I can't see the underlying reason. I suspect it has something to do with prestige, but I don't understand what.
I understand if Paradox doesn't want to bombard new players with too much information, but some of us who've played CK2 for years depend on this kind of information to develop our playstyles. A compromise would be good - make it an option for people to turn on to get more detailed tooltips breaking down the nitty gritty number-crunches going on behind the scenes. That way new players can dip their toes in without having to try and understand this information overload, and as they get more experienced they can try out seeing how the numbers get crunched. The game already does this with the tooltip options - you get a notification after you've been playing for a while that there are more ways to set up how tooltips stick and so on (which honestly, KILLS it as a feature, I wish more games would do this).
