Even with a Nordic England, Greenland probably wouldn't have survived except as a token... there was a climate change that made it more inhospitable. Vinland was something I had pushed for before, but was shot down because Archduke wanted to keep things within the European sphere in the original version. I had envisioned it as a Scandinavian vassal-colony, perhaps having expanded to Nova Scotia, Isle Royale, and some token settlements on the Labrador coast, maybe even into Hudson Bay or down toward Massachusetts. I think it would work even without a Nordic England - it could be colonized through Iceland and get built up to the point of being almost self-sufficient, except perhaps in manufactured goods (as the Thirteen Colonies were, just earlier).

Well, we could make it an option, but I am not sure how it would be fun or interesting if you got a talented Vinland filling up North America.

Oh, I didn't intend for an all-powerful Vinland... I'm thinking some long-established colonies, stretches of unexplored coast, and no explorers for quite some time. Not a possibility to lock out a large section of the coast.

The most important issue is to weaken Scotland, All ABE games I've played Scotland conquers all of Brittain except Ireland in the 1400s. Possibly Anglia left as the Hansa, happened once. And if Scotland conquers Brittanys island provinces, Brittany becomes weak and is absorbed by Burgundy.

I have actually argued, in the past, for events and possibly a revolter to cover a Muslim expansion over the Pyrennes into Gaul (breaking conquered lands off into their own "Emirate of Gaul" (a better name would be needed of course).

Also, I've been thinking... we could switch Granada to Cordoba... the graphics and tag are already there thanks to the new CK conversion tags....

Are you willing to do things for the "Empirate of Gaul" then? Could be intresting, and we have plenty of tags. I'd prefer to simply change Granada to Al-Andalus - sounds a lot better for such a large nation.

Scotland needs to be weakened, but only by a bit in the early game. Otherwise they won't be able to be a halfway-decent power.

If people actually agree with The Impaler's suggestions, I'll start to implement them. For something as complex as that though I really need public support.

Everybody, feel free to post any suggestions. I'm open. :)

how about Granada or Morroco invading the land od the Angles :p
I was reading that the King of England, King John, asked the Almohad Emperor to come to England, and lift England from christianity :p with no England, perhaps one of the Emperors of Islam will invade England and conquer south of it :p just a suggestion....

Talking of Granada, I would say the partition of England is no more or less probable than the description of Granada's miraculous recovery in the period before the game starts - the 'low tide' description doesn't sound that far from real life.

Still, I would propose a middle way - let the Gaelic powers have their territories, but make their hold a lot more tenuous by events. One possibility is to give each country a 'big decision' at some point in the game, as is popular in Aberration:

Scotland: Pursue claims in Norway (this needs to be made more desirable than it is at the moment - Scotland might be tied down more if it's inclined to fight UoK a lot of the time) OR try to hold onto Northern England.
Brittany: Try to cling onto the Southwest OR try to challenge Burgundy's power in France (it's a bit much giving Brittany anglosaxon and french culture at the same time, so I say make them decide)
Ireland: Go ultra-colonial, Portugal-style (give 'em a few bonus explorers and conquistadors over subsequent years, because apparently Ireland can make use of more, and favourable DP adjustment) OR continue to mess around in the British Isles.

In each case turning away from the British Isles would lead to loss of anglosaxon culture and much stronger local independence movements in England and Wales, with the likely result being the formation of Wales, Wessex and/or Yorkshire as appropriate.
