1.06 Big Bug - CTD when liberating puppets.

No chance: when granting independence to puppets, playing the new 1944 scenario, a smashing CTD follows. Tried patching both ver. 1.01b and ver. 1.05c, and still happens.

But only in the new scenario.

Silly question: why would one ever want to liberate a puppet? So as to DOW and annex it? Or just out of the goodness of one's heart?

Nick

If you are playing as the UK and you beat the Germans, it is only nice to liberate Belgium, Luxembourg and Holland. Of course you keep France referring to the 100 years war as justification.

I hoped that liberated countrys are puppets or in the same alliance in 6.0. Bette to have an Ally then an anexed country
But they are no puppets and no Allies. You even lack the right of passage
Now it realy makes no sense to liberate anyone....

I got this too, playing the 44 scenario, invaded Greece and tried to Liberate it, crashed, tried to liberate Ethiopia as well for some reason, crashed, tried to Liberate France... you get the idea...

EDIT: oops, meant 44 not 41

I experienced this crash to the dektop in the first 5 minutes of playin, too.

Besides, when I look at this forum now, I really ask myself what has so long been tested in this patch for there are some new but very obvious bugs...

Besides that, the patch is great and pushes the game in the right direction

I've suffered the same. I installed the game on top of 1.05c, but I didn't think it would make a difference. Surprising such a massive bug made it into a major patch. :(

Still won't keep me from playin though. ;)

I have actually liberated puppets in the 36 scenario as Germany (Finland, Ukraine) without the CTD. However, I too am disgruntled over the fact that these "puppets" aren't puppets.

I find it odd as well that Germany would release Croatia and give it access to all of its nuclear and rocketry techs. I don't seem to recall the Russkies cowering before Ustashi V2s in 1945... :D

Yes, even if they were created as puppets they shouldn't get all your tech; maybe you should get a few 'free' tech transfers to them but that's about it.

New idea: give DI for releasing puppets.

Somone said invalid techs create this bug -- is it possible to fix this?
That is one cause of CTDs on liberating; I don't think that's the problem in the original game. The invalid techs usually comes up in mods (I think it was discovered by the C.O.R.E. team).

have liberated several puppets , no problems at all...
Only seems to happen in certain cases; several repeatable ones were discovered right after 1.05c came out. I think Lothos has identified some more general case involving liberating countries that lost provinces by events.
