American Dream: Defender of the Faith

Whenever I click on becoming defender of the faith as the U.S., the window that says I am pops up, but the option is not greyed out. I keep on doing the same thing and the same thing happens. I keep on wasting 1000 ducats each time.

Patient: "Doctor, every time I do THIS with my arm, it hurts"
Doctor: "Well, don't do it then!"

I take it you are saying the Claim DOTF option should be greyed out while-ever you are the current DOTF.

I never use it - it seems like a waste of money even if it works as advertised - but if you confirm that is what you are saying then I'll log a bug for it.

Well, saving 3 BB points repeatedly against religious infidels at war with your faith can make 1,000 ducats seem plenty cheap. :D

Philip V ? "I take it you are saying the Claim DOTF option should be greyed out while-ever you are the current DOTF."?

I dunno if by the option not being greyed out, it means I'm not the sole defender.

Me either. Let me run it by the other betas.

OK, logged as public bug 307 Bugzilla bug 2484: SDOTF button not greyed out when it should be.

Does this mean I am DOTF or not?

I believe you are.

Well this is interesting. Further test shows this problem only happens with a Reformed nation. With Catholic, Protestant or Orthodox it works fine, when you claim SDOTF the button greys out until you lose a war, as it should. With a Ref nation you can claim it as many times in a row as you can afford.

Is anyone aware of any difference in how a Reformed nation handles SDOTF? Are they perhaps not supposed to be able to claim it at all? Has anyone claimed it as a Ref nation and had it work (ie: got CBs on nations DoWing other Ref nations)? The religious FAQs didn't seem to cover this. Thanks!

There's also a whole issue with catholic and CRC SDOTF. As catholic it works as it should, as CRC you get the same thing as reformed. You don't get the bonuses of SDOTF either in that case.

However if you are catholic and claim it and then covert, you remain SDOTF of catholicism. Probably related to the old bugs which still are in some ways present of catholicism and CRC being somewhat differentiated when they shouldn't be.

As BiB mentioned, CRC/Catholicism is broken in the same was as Protestant/Reformed. For both, there is supposed to be only one SDotF position available, but for CRC and Reformed the code is only half right... I fixed it in my version ages ago, but I guess I shouldn't say things like that since I've still been far too distracted to actually submit it :)

The DOtF moral bonus for reformed nations does not work, i.e. you do not get the bonus. This is rather well-known in the MP community.

But IIRC you can still claim the title, i.e. it is not greyed out. Whether you get the malus on tech speed if you claim it I do not know.

The problem isn't that you can't claim it; the problem is that you can claim it repeatedly, and it doesn't count properly...

Isn't that exactly what DanielA said? :p

Well I am glad to see the problem I brought to attention when I was a disrespectful noob has finally received the attention it deserves! :p

So, we have at least two problems with the DotF for reformed nations

1. The button is not greyed after you (or someone else?) have claimed it

2. You do not get the moral bonus when you have claimed it (a guess is that none of the effects of the title are implemented in the game, which would somehow explain error no 1)

The first point isn't a bug per se. It doesn't grey out because there still is no Defender of the Faith.

The bug is that you can't claim Defender of the Reformed Protestant Faith or Defender of the Protestant Faith when you are Reformed. You can pay the money, but nothing happens.

Got it, the actual bug is that Ref and CRC nations cannot successfully claim DotF, and lose 1,000 ducats each time they try. Bug 307 updated, thanks.

No, you are not, it turns out - sorry for misleading you.

No problem. :) I am just glad that I know my religious standing now.
