Hi, all. I just got the Strategy Six for Mac (v 1.O5 on OSX 10.3.9) and I love CK. But there are a couple things I can't figure out (I've been playing 1066 as Heinrich, King of Germany/Italy/etc.) and I thought I'd check to see if these were bugs.

1) I can't marry off anyone from my court except my aunt Emilia, who was one of the two default courtiers I had at the start. (The other being my mother.) Is there a restriction where you can't marry off the randomly-generated courtiers, or is this a bug? Also, is there any way to get courtiers to retire from your court? At one point, I had nothing but females in my court, which meant no Marshal or Diocese Bishop…I assassinated a couple of them to get new randoms, but obviously this is way too risky for long-term strategy, which I why I think the inability to marry them off is a bug.

2) I can't seem to appoint a Diocese Bishop, even when there are men in my court. Do I need to have someone with an Ecclesiastical Education? (Meaning I probably have to wait until I put one of my sons in that role, I guess, unless I get quite lucky.) Or is this a bug and I should be able to name a D. Bishop right away?

3) While my enemies have no problem combining regiments into one command, I have yet to discover how this is done (it isn't mentioned in the manual). I assume that it's meant to be possible, as otherwise the "split" option on the regimental screen makes no sense, but I'm clueless as to how. (This probably isn't a bug, just a case of my not knowing the technique.)

4) I've been reading these threads (to make sure my questions weren't already asked and answered) and I see that some of the screenshots show Character Information screens that include "Friends" and "Rivals"; none of the ones in my games have this. (Just Liege/Vassals on the top, then Parents/Spouse/Children, and Siblings/Successors on the bottom row.) What's up with that?

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forum.

1) WAD, you can only arrange marriages for members of your own family in your court. Once you get above a certain number of courtiers you will get events, that lets you retire the ones that don't have a position. If you don't appoint a marshal and/or diocese bishop you will get events that gives you male courtiers for these positions.

2) Only male courtiers with a finished ecclesiastical education and who have the same religion as your ruler can be appointed as diocese bishop. If you don't have a person in your court who can do that job, then you will (sooner or later) get an event that gives you such a character.

3) Draw a box around your regiments (with your mouse) you then get the option to combine them.

4) Paradox last year has released an expansion to CK, called Deus Vult, that expansion has introduced new features, like friends and rivals. I don't know if there is a Mac-version yet, but I don't think so.

Thanks, Veldmaarschalk!

I appreciate the quick response. Glad to know I'm not suffering from any bug problems.

I actually did get some retirement events on my first iteration; I guess i was just looking for a way to churn the court more quickly.

And Deus Vult was just recently released for the Mac, but it requires Leopard, and I haven't yet upgraded to that. Plenty of time for that later.

Again, thanks.

A good way to retire unwanted courtiers quickly is to press F12 and type: die <enter> If you do this the courtier you have selected will die

Well, it was my own fault…

For some reason I thought there was a seven-courtier limit to the court; it reached that level almost instantly and never went beyond that, even when someone "retired". (Seven is also the number of courtiers that fit into the box without necessitating the appearance of the slider; in my newbie ignorance, I thought that it might be a hard cap, and no slider was available.) So I worried that seven females (as I was stuck with, time after time), I'd never get a marshal or bishop. I've since learned otherwise.

I try and stay away from cheats, but it's always nice to know the arrow is in your quiver, just in case you're tempted. :) Thanks.

IIRC, 7 is the minimum size court for a King; if you go below 7 courtiers, new random ones will be spawned (sometimes the game stops doing this, but a save/reload will cause you to go back to 7). 5 for a Duke, and 3 for a Count (again, IIRC).

Not related to any of the above, but…

I don't seem to having much success in changing my message settings. I still can't get notification when anybody outside my court dies. Nine zillion of my vassals' pregnancy and birth announcements get listed in my log, but I only realized the Duke of Brandenburg died when suddenly his regiment had an "Anonymous Commander" at the helm, and that's one of my vassal duchies, at that. And I completely missed out on news of the Byzantine succession. Michael Dukas, who had the whole Empire rebel against him in 1071 during my first, aborted, game, actually held on into the mid-1080s this time, and didn't make too big of a mess, amazingly. Then one day I look up and there's Georgios Paleologios signing peace treaties. Is this a bug?

And this isn't a bug, but it's funny. If you look at Montferrato in 1066, Count Oddone de Montferrato is married to Costenze de Savoie, and they have a son, Guglielmo, who eventually succeeds Oddone. Except that Costenze is listed as being born in 1035, and Guglielmo in 1040! (And yes, she is listed as his mother, not stepmother or anything like that, on his character screen.) Pregnant at age 5? Ouch, that's gotta hurt.

About the message settings, some just don't work. So yes you can call it a bug but it also won't be fixed.

The Montferrat thing is also a bug, she probably should be some 10 years younger
