I can't seem to burn trading posts. Every time move an army over an enemy one, I just occupy it. And I can't seem to find a 'Burn TP' botton? What am I doing wrong?

The army has to be a certain size before the button appears, about 6k I think.

i dont think so, as england , while i was at war with both france and spain, i ran a cav army of 341 men thru spains territory from missori to sierra madre, thru unfortified colonies and cities and TPs. at the same time i ran a similarly small cav force thro french terr in the great lakes area to the eastern seaboard. to save time, iwaited for both armies to arrive at their fianl destination. then i paused, went over all the controled terr, and burned every TP i could find.
another trick, if you arent sure what is what, goto the oferr peace, demand tribute page, and center the map on all the prov you control. find the misc TPs and burn baby burn:D

Hell, you can burn TP with even 1 soldier or even 1 artillery.

As soon as you enter undefended province (would that be TP, colony, city, whatever) with no matter how big troops, you will get control of it.

For TP, as soon as ownership shield changes- when you control the province- you can play with matches all you want. Good game for pyromaniacs :)

Oh well, maybe I'm wrong, thinking of something else. I was sure I'd been alone in an undefended enemy TP province and not had the Burn button appear.

Well, if you control the TP, you even don't need an army there to burn it.

When fighting Spain in Central America, i usually give my small cavalry units marching commands to several provinces and come back after month or two- if i feel like burning, i can burn all the TPs under my control, with no armies in them.

Isn't it a bit to easy to burn trade posts? Maybe there could be a price (for buying matched and oil) or a success rate, or a loss of soldiers (the one that turned on the fire got burned up himself, playing with matches is dangerous)

LOL!

What special expences do you want? How hard could it be to burn a TP with 10 men defending it?

Only finding those 10 man in a huge province could prove a bit problematic.

I don't know what I want, I just think it is to easy to burn down TP. I agree I have no good motives, but I will try to find something during the day that could motivate an expense.

That's happened to me at times, and it's always been a >level 4 trading post. I dunno if that's relevant - maybe you can't burn TPs once they grow too big.

"Burn" is a generic term for putting the thing out of action. If you're such a skinflint as to not issue your troops with tinderboxes, just order them to kick it to death :D

There should at least be a "shock horror" effect on your reputation - i.e. international relations and BB rating.

Especially if you kick 'em to death, Heyesey - what are you, some kind of skinhead ?!

Nah, I think it's ok. Lord knows enuff of the early settlements/forts/tps were wiped out by natives or other europeans. Besides, I think it's a good incentive to make the dang thing a colony instead, which makes it burn proof.

I will admit that I wouldn't mind seeing an option to wipe out smaller colonies though. Say any colony/city that's less than 1000 pop. Or maybe 500. Making a colony of 100 burn proof doesn't seem very accurate to me. Natives have the capability to wipe out anything less than 700 pop, so it would seem to make sense to allow other troops to do it too. There should be a diplo hit though, a drop in relations between the two countries at least.

You burn someone's trading post, there relations go straight to minus 200 with you-sometimes that doesn;t happen when you take cities from them in a war!:)

As for "shock-horror"............remember Amboina (among other examples.)
