November 10, 530 AVC
Chapter 10: Within the Shadow of a Mighty Kingdom
Sub-chapter 2: Rome
November 25, 530 AVC
Nickandros, King of Bythinia, idly twirled a bit of string around his finger. He was bored of this, despite the fact that the subject of these talks might well cast down all of Bythinia.
The meeting was about Rome. Rome, the great city in the West, that had defeated the thought to be unbeatable Carthage, had invaded Macedonia. Now Nickandros and his chancellors feared for the Greek territories under their rule, and prepared for a war they were certain they could not win.
For the numbers of the armies of Rome were vast, and well equipped and trained. And all seemed lost in this dark hour as rome prepared to invade Bythinia, and they did not try to hide it. Bythinia had grown great over the years.
Bosporus had fallen. The resistance they showed was symbolic only, they fell quickly before the might of Bythinia. But Nickandros could not invade the Rhoxolani with Rome on his doorstep.
The war was about to begin.
Chapter 10: Within the Shadow of a Mighty Kingdom
Sub-chapter 3: The Doom of Our Time
"Hear me Bythinians!" Nickandros cried out to the masses, only minutes after the end of the last meeting about Rome. "Rome masses on our very doorstep, but we must stand! Long have we feared this would come to pass, and alls end may draw near, but we shall fight it!"
"Though the armies of Rome are strong in both number and training, they play a very dangerous game. Our spies have discovered that they plan to attack across the Propontis!"
"In the beginning of Bythinia, King Zipoites the Great crossed the Propontis and made war upon Tylis, this same victory shall NOT occur for the Romans! We shall defend the shallows, and we shall win! We shall triumph! We shall not live to witness the Doom of Our Time! Have faith, brothers and sisters, for we shall win this war!"
November 10, 520 AVC was a day of celebration. The king, Nickandros, made a speech that was known through the days of Bythinia as the Doomsday Speech, but it was not the end of Bythinia. No, Nickandros destiny was far greater than any thought. He would become Emperor, and Bythinia would know only victory under his lead.
Chapter 11: Under the Light of the Bleeding Sun
The soldiers stood in ranks upon the beaches. They eye the incoming Roman ships apprehensively, and they feared. But they did not fear overmuch, for King Nickandros stood with them.
The Roman ships landed. The soldiers began to unload from the ships.
Horn blows, as the Bythinian line began to surge forward.
Vulture cries, it knows what is about to occur.
Romans turn to meet the Bythinians, their armor shining in the light of the setting sun.
The lines near each other, closing, closing...... the gap is closed.
A crash, and a tremendous roar from both Roman and Bythinian throats as the battle begins.
Under the light of the setting sun, which seemed to all as if it bled red streaks that soaked into the clouds.
The Romans, tired from a night of celebration and drinking, begin to fall back.
The Bythinians push them steadily toward their ships. All under the light of the bleeding sun.
A cheer from the Bythinian throats as the graceful line of Bythinian ships sails into view, blocking the Romans from fleeing across the sea.
All under the light of the bleeding sun.
On November 25, 520 AVC the Roman forces sent to take Bythinia were defeated, and they broke and fled. The Roman forces ran for almost two months, always staying one step ahead of the Bythinian force, until it was trapped and annihilated in Antioch.
The Bythinians invaded across the Propontis soon after, and won back the territories they had lost, plus Thessaly, Macedonia, Achaea and Argolis. King Nickandros was hailed as the hero of the Bythinians, and he was given the title "the Great".
He was the first to recieve that title since King Zipoites himself.
