Need someone to participate in building a new scenario.

I'm looking for some to cooperate on a new scenario I'm doing. It's called The Second Byzantine Saga and will be based on a hypothetical survival of the Byzantine Empire. The goals of this new scenario are:

*To create a much more interesting campaign for the Byzantine Empire by increasing the amount of leaders and monarchs.

*To give all the countris in the conflict a much more distinctive and original personaleties.

*To allow player jump into the game at 1492, 1575, 1650, 1725 or any other years found interesting. Basically creating a whole other world where Byzantine would participate in the Thirty Years War or other significant wars of the EU-era.

*And overally creating a very good, neat, though through scenario which the EU players would enjoy.

I will create a file sharing system on EU Arsenal which will allow all the participants to share files with ease. If you are interested or can help me out with anything at all please post your reply here. Thank You.

Hello,

Sounds like an interesting -and fun- project and I'd be pleased to participate, though my free time is somewhat limted. I have downloaded your scenario already, but haven't played it as yet.
You may remember me. I onced mentioned I wanted to create a 1447-1492 scenario which, of course, would include the Byzantines. I wanted more experience with the game first however. Participating in your project will give me experience in editing files.

My thanks,

I'd be willing to help with the monarchs. I could easily work out a list of the legal heirs of the Byzantine emperors, although some of the dates of members of the main line of the Palaiologos family (the decendents of the Despot Thomas of the Morea) may take a bit research. After the extinction of the main line (barring the inclusion of the decendents of the Grand Princess Sofia of Russia; uniting Russia and Byzantium, even temporarily until the end of the Rurikids, would spoil some of the fun), the cadet line of the Palaiologos family, the Marquises of Montferrat in Italy, would be the true heirs (and they placed the arms of the Eastern Empire in their coat of arms to advertise this fact), followed by the Marquises of Mantua (who inherited Montferrat) and the French Counts of Nevers (who inherited Mantua). As Nevers lasted unil the French Revolution (it was the only large feudal entity to do so), I could recreate a list of potential emperors based upon who would have had the best claim to the throne if the empire had ever been reconstituted.

Great, thanks for participating. I'm already creating a directory for our use on my server but so far I've only caused a few crashes.:) I'll fix it and we can begin working. Demetrios, I thank you for any information you can provide me with monarchs of the Byzantine Empire and I share your opinion on the Byzantine-Russian family line. Yet again, thanks.

Well, I have nothing like Demetrios' information to contribute, so if that's what you're looking for, I'm afraid I'll have to opt out. However, if you have a suggestion for a specific area that needs research, let me know and I'll see what I can do.
Changing subjects somewhat, I had some questions about the current Byzantine scenario. First, am I overlooking the Turkish fleet? I can't find one! Next, I read the alternate history, including the part of a war between the Turks and Venice, ending with the Turks capturing Morea, etc. This is certainly possible, but since the Byzantines held this area even after the fall of Constantinople, it seems more likely they would have retained this area as well.
If you wish, I can provide my email address, so as to continue this discussion off the board.

My thanks,

Ami, I'm open to discussion and I'm ready to change the scenario that it would be closer to history but nonetheless hypothetical. I'm glad that you are ready to dispute points of control for this scenario as it will be important in the later stages of the development. I would also like you to participate and honored if you would fo so. First things first though, the scenario will be developed as follows (for now):

EU 1.09/IGC 2.1
Playable countries in 1492: Byzantine, Ottoman Empire, Crimea, Venice, Wallachia, Moldovia, Mameluks and Georgia.
Chances that Greece and Serbia will revolt and become independant around 1520s-1530s. I'm open to discussing this thouroughly.
Additional starting dates in 1530s, 1620s, 1725.(Not 100% sure about dates yet.)

I'm currently making a site for file-sharing, I'm writing a scipt from scratch and therefore will be busy in the next couple of hours. Please wait and I will provide you with login name and password to the page. Thank you for your patience.

If you're planning a specific areo oriented scenario, you may also consider dropping tags from other areas and using them in balkans, for example to implemen rebel Bulgaria or Romania late in the game ( at expense of Moldavia and Wallachia)
or even Albania, Croatia
unfortunatly Montenegro territory is occupied by Ragusa already, too bad

Cant help with scenario specific creation at this time, but maybe can help playtest a bit latter on.

What I am doing which may be of interest is basic research on how to use the EU event engine. Historic, random, cheat codes. The 'historic events monarchs.csv' is tedious and timeconsuming to test, but see the events thread for updates.

For now what is written up is a bit sparse, but eventually it will be a short 'how to' guide. Also of note is the IGC (or maybe the original game) has error(s) somewhere in the historic file. There is no way to tell write now without carefully looking at each event.

If you fill me in on your research then I will be able to implement some events into The Second Saga. I will read up on the matter in the thread that you stated, just tell me when you'll have some free time to playtest and/or participate and I'll create an account for you. Thanks.

Events thread:

Once you feel the scenario(s) are ok (not many crashes) and you are looking for some feedback on play balance issues. I can do some testing in a week or two. Right now I am working on finishing up a sicily playable scenario and looking at maybe making an uzbek scenario (with monarch events). The uzbek's could be delayed though.

Where do you want me to post the prospective Byzantine monarch list? Here, the website, or send it directly to you?

We have also decided to change that starting year to 1448, and allow the player a chance to prevent the fall of Byzantine. I and Ami Hund have embarked of a research mission, we will define all the monarchs and leaders from 1448 to 1492. If anyone would like to make a contribution on this matter, please mail me. Thank You.

Just an update: I have completed the Monarchs listing From the letters A to H, so there is no need for any one to duplicate these at least.

Thanks,

hey guys, just a quick note. This is alternate history where Byzantium still stands right? Then it wouldn't make much sense to use an exiled/abroad line for monarchs. Probably the people you'll use wouldn't have been born in the first place, no I mean surely because a Byzantine autocrator does not marry the same women exiled ones would have(or how would these people come to power in the first place?) + people raised in a surviving Byzantium are of course different from surviving exiles somewhere. See my point? If I were you I'd just use an entirely fictional monarch line starting with a fictional heir for Constantine XI(XII depending on your pow) Dragases eh? Then you can play around with bringing back old lines at times, for example my monarch file has the Comneni making a cameo :) Just make sure you DO NOT mess up numerals... aka don't have a Manuel I when of course there has been one before. Btw general, want my monarch and leader file, they're all fictional though but do sort of make sense. You won't find out of period names and all. Since I probably won't bother to finish my scenario because I wanted it to make RPGish and I haven't figured how to give textual events to the player, if you want I can help you with the leader/monarch file, proofreading your story for historical innacuracies(at least imho) or adding to it. Also maybe names of units....Of course I'd want to be given credit for my contributions :p I also have tons of ideas for events I do not know how to do or don't have the time. (plus I could help with Wallachia...I'm Romanian by birth so...oh add Moldova there) So if your scenario is AMBITIOUS and not merely an add historical map, add 3 ai files, a monarch and leader file I'll be glad to help if you want me. I already have a map (yes rather bad but it's there) and the other files mentioned :p so if you're not doing historical events or anything besides that I could just post my own heh, but if you're in the business for making something truly special I'd love to help.

Thanks Shaytana, if apriciate your feedback but you don't quite know everything about the scenario. Let me fill you in, the scenario will start in 1448 where the player will try to prevent or cause the fall of Constantinople, this scenario will last till 1492. Then in 1492 scenario we will be using the already existing IGC map with some changes.

These changes specifically imply to the territorial possesions of Byzantine Empire. The territories that would remain in the Empire if Constantinople didn't fall, remnants of the Empire after the fall of Constantinople and the territorial changes caused by 50 years of hostilities would all be conculated and thought through.

As for the monarchs, you have a point, but I'd rather use exiled monarchs then the fictional ones. Thanks for your opinion.

Shaytana, when you mention a monarch file, does it include Monarchs for all countries going back to before the fall of Constantinople? I am working on one, but am only 1/3rd completed.

Thanks,
