Demetrios did you see my monarchs/leaders files? What do you think of them?

Yes I did. Good wide selection of major Byzantine names. Saw all the major families, and quite a few that I hadn't seen before.

It's just a quibble, but some of the names could be transliterated better:

Paleologus = Palaiologos
Ducas = Doukas
Cantacuzine = Kantakouzenos
Constantine = Konstantinos
Theodore = Theodoros

Since all the rest were directly transliterated from the Greek (which I heartily approve of!), those kinda stuck out a bit.

As for combining the two monarch files, I'd say do so after the main line of the Palaiologos family dies out in 1519. At that point there were no clear heirs, other than the Russian royal house, who were too far away, and the Montferrato branch of the Palaiologos family, who were only very distantly related. At that point, members of Byzantium's other major families might have made a grab for the throne, leading to a new, non-historical, dynasty.

I think that combining the monarch files should give us the ability to do what Shaytana wanted, the war for the throne. We can make some of the "distant relatives" come back and try to reclaim the throne or even succeed for a little while. What do you think about it?

Sounds like a good idea, as it would likely would have happened. One could easily see the Russians or the Italian branch of the Palaiologoi making attempts to regain the throne that they have a hereditary right to. Maybe we should temporarily seat Ivan the Terrible on the Byzantine throne for a little while just for fun :)

I just uploaded the map I modified and the historical events files...
(smaller events files more stable than the ones I'm testing :p still there should be plenty of events there)
-you have to have the new monarch window on in order to see short description
event 7 is religious conversion right? and 3 is rebellion?(i'm pretty positive they are but too lazy to test it now:p)
-the modified map - as I said only Constantinople part of the Empire + Turkish capital moved to Angora /fortress expanded +barracks there. Why? Simple if you keep the capital near the Byz one you can always amass a huge army and just declare war and attack and get their capital directly...war becomes much easier. I'd rather have a province in between in the beginning...plus Ankara later became the capital anyway(yes yes I know total age entirely).(oh yes and I changed populations for both)
-also added more provinces as Byzantine national...(all Turkish/Mameluke ones + sicily/messina naples/apulia and Rome...)
Why? Provinces in order to be affected by events have to be national...so...it's easier to make some major religious changes/wars that way. +expansion should be encouraged that way :)
Why Rome and Southern Italy? well...it's about rebuilding the Roman empire...
---------
gonna try and modify the color...
I'd rather have either white, purple or yellowish gold...
I just don't like that green. Any suggestions for another color? Or you guys like that one?
----------
Greek names for monarchs- ya I went with some Latin ones...but hey, they can be made Greek quite easily if you guys want. 2 minute job.
----------
When will the random leader file be done? + I'd go on and make units but I'm not sure what the tags I can use are...

I don't think that Ivan The Terrible should rule the Byzantine but maybe we could create a temporal Habsburg like family in europe. That'd be the day.:)

The Italian Palaiologoi were the Marquises of Montferrato in northwestern Italy, located btween Savoy and Lombardy/Milan. As I have mentioned, their claim was soon inherited by the Gonzaga family, who were the rulers of Mantua.

hey Demetrios, what do you think of the color? Surely green and Byzantium don't match?(I could be wrong)

I think gold would be considered the "typical" Byzantine color. It's the color of the cross in their arms (the red cross in the other quarters is simply St. George's cross) and their gold coins in the Middle Ages were refered to by other Europeans (who didn't possess a gold currency) as "bezants".

Oh, Ivan being there wouldn't have to be all that long. He'd be a long way from home and his new subjects wouldn't put up with a mentally deranged half-barbarian on the throne for very long. As soon as he left to look into affairs at home in Moscow, someone else would be immediately enthroned.

Well, if not good ol' Ivan Grozny, why not some of the other late Rurikids decended from Zoe Palaiologa (Vasili III or Fedor I)? After the extinction of the main line of Palaiogoi, the Russians would have had an excellent claim to the Byzantine throne (until 1596 at least), and would have at least attempted to make good on it. It would be kind of fun just have one pop up for a lark. :D

Don't worry about the Habsburgs; their claim doesn't come into play until 1747 (and technically not until later - the heir then is Franz Stephan of Lorraine, the HRE and Maria Theresia's husband)

I like the idea of making them gold...or yellowish. Much better than green imho...and Spain is after all still far away so won't conflict that much.

1.any ideas for post 1492 diplomatic events?
2.if you look at my monarch file there is a depressing usurper there Theodore III Laskaris...I think I shall totally ruin the Byzantine empire doing his reign as it stands now the events for him are:
0698;1;3;;;;;;The usurper Laskaris tries to hold on to the Imperial throne;;;;KAL
0698;2;48;;;;;;;;;;KAL
0698;6;47;;;;;;;;;;KAL
0698;12;50;;;;;;;;;;KAL
0698;18;50;;;;;;;;;;KAL
0698;24;42;;;;;;;;;;KAL
0698;28;43;;;;;;;;;;KAL
but I'm thinking of totally ruining diplomacy, having manufactories burn, several revolts and other nasty stuff...just to make it civil war like...
as the Paleologus(don't shoot me for using Latin names right now :p) line is restored I could undo the damage with extensive events...
as it is right now the immediate succesor Michael XI only has these events associated:
0715;1;40;;;;;;Restores the Paleologus line, after executing the usurper Laskaris;;;;KAL
0715;9;40;;;;;;;;;;KAL
0715;26;25;;;;;;;;;;KAL
0715;33;25;;;;;;;;;;KAL
0715;42;25;;;;;;;;;;KAL
What do you think about some major mayhem here? :p
oh and coming to the theocracy under Makarios II
do you think I should add some more events or those are enough:
0749;1;3;;;;;;The Church assasinates the emperor,and a theocracy is established;;;;KAL
0749;2;47;;;;;;;;;;KAL
0749;3;32;;;;;;;;;;KAL
0749;4;7;;;;;;;;;;KAL

The RandomLeaders.csv is there and you can view it or download it, I'd prefer if you playtest it and see if there are any problems. I think that making some political games for the throne is a good idea, but I don't think that the church should kill anyone. if the church comes to power then there are suppose to be two events that must be included into their rule. One of them is "Conversion of Heretics" the other is "Unhappy Nobility", I think everyone can guess why those two are selected.

Also, we must agree on the monarchs since we can only have one monarchs.kal and one events file for monarchs.

The color of the empire cannot be changed, the only thing is to change the tag for the country. Which is totally acceptable since the KAL tag is used for Novgorod and there should be minimal contrdiction with IGC.

errr, the color can be changed...I'm playing as a WHITE Byzantine Empire as we speak(because I dont know the values for a golden color)
Yes, I downloaded the randomleaders file but it doesn't work...I replaced the one in the DB folder and the one in the leaders folder but...doesn't work...i still get the swedish names. maybe I should replace something else?

Those events files i uploaded are a bit messy i think...the wierd thing is i'm playing the campaign right now and at this moment it won't let me declare war on the turks...is that your doing? or did my events do it?

and about having both my and your monarchs...well as I said in the begining we can have 2 variants...and we can use 2 TAGS...so for your version you could use KAL or wathever and for mine KAZ or wathever...barring that I could just post mine separate from yours...
I am into HEAVY HEAVY work here and don't want to change everything right now :p

oh yes, and the capital of Burgundy was DIJON(since 1015 on). Brussels was merged with the Duke's possesions in 1430 and became the seat of administration for the Low countries possesions but not for the whole Duchy. Dijon should be the capital of Burgundy imho...

So, how do you change the color of the country?

oh and no way in heck I'll ever have Ivan or a Hapsburg on the Byz throne in my version

Hm, Russian Princes dreamt of Constantinople since the days of Oleg, who accidently hammered his shield to the gates of the city as a symbol of Russian victory over the empire. So there should be a possibility of a Russian ruler on the throne.

As for popular opinion, etc. C'mon, Greeks could tolerate Muslim Sultan vs Catholic Emperor, but they wouldn't accept Orthodox Czar? Shaytana, I think your decision was based on pride and emotions only.

nah, I have nothing against them using Ivan in their version or anyone else for the matter...but I was saying I won't in mine. I have my chronology pretty well done right now and I'm finetuning a new improved rather huge event list...It has continuity as it is right now and I do not want to depart from it. My periods of crisis and everything else is taking shape and it wouldn't make sense to put Ivan or another outsider in there. Wait, no, it probably would make sense for a Catholic ruler before Makarios II now that I think of it. but Ivan? Nope...can't see where he could fit in my view of the monarch line.
I've spent too much time on what I have now to depart from it. Why have Ivan? In my version Byzantium has survived and the Paleologus line has survived and so did other Imperial lines...my version has Byzantium becoming stronger and stronger, ruled by Byzantine families. It would make no sense to have a Russian on the throne :)

color change? simple...
You modify the colorscales.csv file...
In KAL's case:

light orange;;;
red;green;blue;index
0;180;150;0
0;150;125;10
0;120;100;24
0;70;60;64

becomes wathever you want... and so on... granted it will change the colors for the other countries with that color as well but...does it matter that much in this case? Not really...

-ignore those event files I uploaded. I messed up with them. I will have correct ones uploaded as soon as I'm sure they're actually working as they should.

-----
I do not understand why some stuff works and some doesn't.
Events 40(stability +)and 35(army)(for example) seem to work flawlessly...but event 3(rebellion) or event 7(conversion) do not...and I do have some provinces which could be converted...I don't get it. Am I using the wrong tags? If so I'd appreciate to know the NUMBERS i need to use in the historicalmonarchevents files to make it work.

what is the correct number for:

1.REBELLION
2.CONVERSION to official religion
3.HERESY (conversion to another religion)
4.DESERTIONS
5.STABILITY -3

Any other BAD events you could think of...
the good events seem to work for some reason (all tech/stability navy/army increases /manufactory creation seem to)

-------
could it be that my game is corrupt or something? for I have errors(?) along the line of not being able to declare war on the Turks(till august 0 for some reason)(HOW on earth can one make something like that???),and won't let me apply moctezuma's unlimited patch...hmmmm...
maybe I should just go to sleep and forget about it hehehe.

since I'm sleepless anyway :p - here's my 2cents on Ivan -
1530-1584 so as a ruler he could start no earlier than 1555 imho(a younger than 25 Ivan on the throne of Constantinople???not fiction, pure poetry :p) for the Empire...So he could appear in there between Alexios VI Comnenus, Nikephorus IV Ducas,Patriarch Makarios II,Georgios I Ducas...the question is WHY? what could he add to the period? And would it be logical? by 1555 a mediocre player should have already made the Empire more powerful than Russia is at the time. The decline is for the 17th century(when I will delight piling misery on top of the poor Byzantine player hehe). During that period, Russia would be not only inferior but sort of a far away uncivilized state in the eyes of the now rather powerful again empire. So why would they want a russian on the throne? There is an answer actualy. Now let's look at the 1555-1584 period event-wise from the Byzantine perspective as I see it...(aka in my fictional conception and using my files :p)
under Alexios -some military events and rebellions; Nikephorus - economic bonuses/prosperity /better diplomacy; Makarios - total disaster...revolts, conversions(errr sort of good), Catholic West relations going down the drain etc...Georgios Ducas - cleaning the mess, aka new econ dev/stability +army improvement +better relations again...now would Ivan add that much to this? no, not really, but he could appear right there just after Makarios. In the original conception I had the pro-Union party regaining power after the religious war and exile of Makarios but...maybe the civil war during the Church's rule ended in a compromise with the Byzantine nobles appointing a foreigner, aka IVAN as basileus...
a bit of a stretch but, that's one way to do it.
so what the heck...if you guys want Ivan, why not?
