Can't find a source for the spirit of civilization or whatever traveling West to America. So I don't know if it was a continuation of that theory, or something else someone cooked up. However, there are plenty of mentions about the US founding fathers referring to Rome, so I believe it's plausible someone at some point someone has said something like that.
It probably is, this is a continuation. I just chose a manuscript I knew from around the start date of the game, but the idea was actually very popular in the middle ages. Apparently, later it was also applied to America by George Herbert and your author(s) is probably another continuation of this, although possibly modified. It is called translatio studii. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Translatio_studii

But how many pages of this will be people commenting on how long this discussion is and asking to close the thread only to complain later on how long the discussion is (partly because of their own contribution)?

Scottish Highlands, as in North of Antonine wall? How are they Roman?

thats why i said for us easterners. roman = christian basically. also its a joke.

edit: eastern = oriental = muslim = saracen = the others
edit2: to add to the discussion, currently watching ramadhan series about muawiyas life (5th caliph), and they were very involved with byzantium... and yeh for early muslims there werent byzantium or east rome, they were the legit roman empire.

its all part of the discussion ;)

btw, how long this discussion is, please close thread

While my main motivation for spa... excuse me, posting in this thread is seeing how long this can go on before the thread is closed, I now actually don't want it closed. There's another thread on the forum that's longer, I want to see this become the longest again before the inevitable closing. Rome was the largest and longest lived empire, surely it deserves the longest thread.

No matter how hard you try, Moldavia will endure.

Wasn't Moldavia, or parts of it, at some point part of Rome or Byzantium? That leads to two questions:

Can it claim to be Rome?

Can we ask that some of the Moldavia posts get moved to this thread, thus correcting the order of thread sizes?

I hope the thread will get locked at page 100 when @Johan will declare the victor and how to name the post 1204 greek rump state that controls the city of Istanbul in 1337
The victor was declared on the first post of page 1. All we have had since are the ignorants complaining that it shouldn't be called the Roman Empire and the knowledgeable telling them they're wrong.

Well if it's the default, that's what the devs prefer no?

Default "Byzantium" isn't the "best" option, it's the most bland, uninteresting, dull, boring, unimaginative, uninspiring and unexciting one. It's the equivalent of grey color. It's a Ford model T.

"Basileia ton Rhomaion" is intriguing, exciting, thrilling, stimulating, appealing, breathtaking, impressive, immersive, mind-blowing and powerful. It's the deep red or tyrian purple among colors. It's a Ferrari.

You know what I originally liked making sure that the Byzantines were portrayed as Romans but at this point I understand that they aren't,clearly you are all delusional larpers and the real Roman empire died a thousand years earlier when the western part fell, please by all means keep spamming this thread with the same useless, annoying and repetitive stuff so that this thread may always syphon time and energy of readers and moderators alike, truly heroic what you guys are doing
Maybe the thousandth time you suggest the same dumb name to be the default one the Devs will listen to you!
