Ok I playtested a byzantine scenario I finished yesterday. It works beautifully. If we can agree on fictional leaders/army names/fleet names and what provinces it should consist of etc. I could make the more 'historical' scenario to you guys want.

Why not steal real names from Byzantine history, perhaps mixing them up a little?

Or you could just use Lovecraftian names (providing a rather bizarre explanation as to why the Byzantine Empire still survives in this version of history;)).

what provinces did you give the Byzantine Empire?

Dont worry, Ill get you a big fat list of names and fictional monarchs.

The provinced I would give the Byzantine Empire to start with are Morea and Trebizond, with Morea as the capital.

Also make them a vassall of the Ottoman Empire.

What file do you go in to edit the game files?

What was the Lovecraftian story? Where can I get it?

:) Yeah! Why not General Curwen and Admiral Obed Marsh? Maybe the empire was assisted by a deep one colony in the black sea. I guess the turks were SURPRISED :)

ROFL ;)

This would make a rather interesting lead-in story for a scenario...

Can someone give me the titles of his books about Byzantium?

Clarification: There is no Lovecraft book about Byzantium (to my knowledge). The ancient empires Dark Knight was talking about is Hyperborea, Atlantis and Stygia. Lovecraft did quite a lot of colaberations with Robert E. Howard. That is why there is alot of mythos elements in the Conan stories.

You seem to have missed a great writer, more info about this great writer:

This is a very short intro.

 One of my posts seems to have disappeared, so I'll reiterate the information.

Yannelis,
As far as I know there is no Lovecraft story about the Byzantine Empire. I just mentioned him because of Cthulhu's username ('Cthulhu' is the name of H.P. Lovecraft's most famous creation).
