Can someone please tell me how long England owned Calais? Consider England owning it as anytime it was controlled by a government on the British Isles (even if they were say Normans).

Calais was never part of the Norman/Angevin inheritance-too far along the coast with the lands of the counts of Boulogne in between.

But didn't the English sell it back to France? You make it sound as though France took it in a campaign.
