Campaign game crashes when a battle starts

Hello,

I recently reinstalled Director's Cut v. 1.12 on a new hard drive after a hard drive crash. I am able to start the game and everything runs fine up in campaign mode until the time when I am forced to go into combat. The loading bar for the tactical bar slowly fills and it looks like it is about to start the battle, then at that point the game simply errors out (shuts down and I get a message that the application experienced an error and needs to be closed).

I am running the game under Windows Vista which is at the most current patch level. I also recently installed McAfee antivirus (after the game was installed) - could this play a role? My video card is a NVIDIA GeForce 8600 (Driver Version 258.96) and I have Direct X 11.0 loaded.

Is there a diagnostic I could run to tell me why the game is crashing?

Still waiting on a response on this one. I have since uninstalled and reinstalled the game and was actually able to get from the campaign screen into a few tactical battles and fight them out. Once the tactical screen gets called up, everything seems to work just fine. The problem is getting in to the tactical screen to begin with. I have looked at my windows error log for the application and have the following data (sorry for the German labels, I am running Vista in German):
