Thanksgiving cut into my writing time, and put some dents into my memory, so here are just a few short notes on the state of the world as I remember or imagine it to be:
So what did the much improved 2.2 AI do when it was Rome and on top of the world? It went north! It removed its foot from the neck of Carthage, letting it rebuild its armies and navies in peace, and turned its attention to conquering Gaul. I suppose it was just honoring the truce with Carthage. But why into Gaul? Why not grab Epirus?
If Macedonia would stop picking on Egypt and instead ally with Carthage in the next session, the two of them could knock off Rome, or at least take it down a peg and forestall any Roman advance into Greece. Not that there is anything wrong with Rome moving east.
Although the brutish yet quick-thinking Kenamid Philocrates was able to easily win Egypt's third Civil War, and the first of his dynasty, he was not able to inspire his oarsmen to row swiftly. Consequently, when the fleet finally did arrive off Caria, they found only the victorious Macedonian army marching back towards Greece. Kenamid and his army were no more.
The new Pharaoh, though lacking Kenamid's martial abilities, is a charismatic leader who hopes to quickly end the war with the Seleucid Empire so that he can concentrate on helping Pontus, Macedonia, and the other Greek states settle their differences to everyone's satisfaction. Or at least to Egypts.
Armenia: Has a small nation of wild, near barbaric, mountain dwellers ever expanded so rapidly? Where will their ambition take them next? If only the map extended to the east, then the nations of the Mediterranian might have nothing to fear. But as it is, Armenia may soon collide with Pontus or the Bosporan Kingdom.
