OK, I know it has something to do with the colorscales.csv in the map directory, but what determines that file's makeup I still do not know. Somebody must know, anybody?
I have always heard that you cannot do it at all. What I'd do is just change everything else, instead.
Example: I want to play as Switzerland. Their color is poop-brown. I want them to be blue like Sweden. I would do is go into 1492.inc and change wherever it says HEL to SWE and vice versa. Then go into text.csv and change the line that says SWE; Sweden; X; X; X;...to SWE; Switzerland; X; X; X;... Make a similar change for the HEL tag in text.csv. Then swap all the shield filenames with each other. Extremely tedious, but effective.

...and that would not be enough. You would also have to modify DiplomaticMatrix.csv, revolt.txt, ColonyNames.csv, ArmyNames.csv, RandomLeaders.csv and LandCosts.csv. Not to mention that you would have to switch the monarch and leader files. Not practically doable just to change colors.

Say you want to give Kleve Venice-color. What sane man would want to give up the free colonists, monarchs, and the other free perks the colored nations get?

Um... It's not about sanity so much as keeping the game historical... With your changes, all you get is Sweden in the Alps.

Nah, I haven't moved. I just wanted to set my location to an EU province. It would be neat if everyone did that.
So Doomdark, why don't you write a little program a la IGCConfig that makes it easy to change the colors of various countries? It could be included in the next ICG version.
