After a 150 hours or so of more or less crashfree gameplay I got the messages "CK2 has stoped working" when clicking on saved game icon after chosing singelplay, any suggestions?
I have reinstalled the game.

Uninstall again, but this time manually delete the CK2 game folders (where Steam or GG put them) and the CK2 user folders under MyDocuments, before re-installing.

Actually, I just had the exact same problem, but thanks to a tech-savvy friend I got it fixed.

The cause was, apparently, a corrupted save file. When my friend realised this, it was easy to fix: I just found the folder containing the save files (in my case, My Computer/C:/Users/Owner/Documents/Paradox Interactive/Crusader Kings II/save games) and removed most of the saves, except the latest ones. Fortunately, the corrupted file was not among the most recent ones, so once I did that, the game started working again, just nicely. No need to reinstall or anything, just delete most (not even necessarily all) of your save files. And I even got to continue my current game, with no apparent errors.

Well, it worked for me at least.

(Also, funnily, I discovered that I don't even have to exit the game while modifying the "save games"-folder, once I played with the files Crusader Kings immediately updated as to which files were actually in the "save games"-folder. Inconsequential, but fun)

There's a known problem when you run out of disk space, the game saves are truncated or corrupted. That's the only issue I'm aware that will automatically corrupt games, although that can't be your issue as it would be the later ones that would be bad.

But yes, if a save game file is corrupt it can crash the game when you click on the Save Games tab, as it tries to read in the details from the save files.

I'm pretty sure that was what happened to me - I ran out of disk space, noticed that the saving got odd, made some room then kept playing, so that's probably why the very last saves I made weren't affected (but those right before that were).
