I don't use archers, simply for the fact that fliers destroy them. However, it would be nice to get my Spearmen to target the fliers, sense they seem to do well against them. However, once the fliers target say, my Light Cavalry, thats basically the end of my light cavalry, because I can't get anything else to target them.

I havn't unlocked any targeted magic yet, besides Venomous Curse and Blast. Usually the Fliers never even come close to my generals, so Blast never really works. And Venomous curse takes forever.

Also, by target, I basically mean, they stand under the fliers. And when the fliers dive, the Spearmen stab em. Something you can't do while fliers are attacking something else.

Recruit the alternate Spearmen (Vindicators) which have the Javelin Throw ability. It's EXTREMELY powerful, the equivalent of like a dozen archer volleys, and a range of about 300.

Other than that you can really only cross your fingers that the fliers will target your Spearmen, which I don't think has ever happened for me. So you're playing without much magic or archers? Interesting, I have to say

You could use some talonfolk units....

As long as the enemy has ANY archer units, you can't use talons. My first experience with talons, they went to capture a victory location, 2 enemy archer units were heading the same way, and they killed my whole talon unit in ONE VOLLEY. That's right, 2 archers units killed them in 3 seconds with one swoop... That's how useless talons are.

I'm kind of the whole "Human purity, righteous, christines" deal. So I don't use Talons.

But to the quoted, any experience on the Guardians and Angels? (Assuming they are flying) I was planning on using those to combat air.

Lol... airborne massacre. I never even touched talons because I figured the enemy armies always have a gratuitous amount of archers all too willing to kill em. That and whenever the enemy used them against me they accomplished nothing. Well they do have better stats then the wolf breed... I suppose they would be useful against enemy cavalry if there were no archers around.

I keep one unit of talons just to capture victory points fast. But i don't use them to fight, ever. I think the AI does a good job of splitting their archers to cover many flanks because in all battles where i brought talons there was no opportunity to attack a single unit that has no anti air.

They would be a hell of a lot more useful if there were bridge battles like in Total war or Fallen champions. Air units evolve gameplay to a great degree the game design just has to take advantage of it.

I just think of all the useful things that could be applied to them if this game were the wargame it pretends to be.
