I have been playing a game for the last month and it is getting exciting.
After the recent forced update to build 3.04 the Resume Game loaded my game but it was clearly completely wrong.

My entire working population was either dead or had just stopped working. I followed the advice given and went back to build 2.8.1. This is the same problem
What has happened? What can I do?

Once a save game has been written by a new game patch it can't be run under older patches. You'd need to load a save that had not been so updated.

But the 3.0.4 patch only updated from 3.0.3, so quite a minor update and shouldn't really have caused any problem like this. Did you try reverting to that instead of 2.8.1 which is from last year?

Thanks for the idea. The 3.04 update note did say revert to 2.8.1, but it did seem strange with 2.8.1 's old layout. I'll try 3.03.

I looked for 3.03 but only found 3.02 in BETA list.

The result is better, at least my pops are working. But the resource problem is very bad. (I am playing as Hive minded)

I need 3.03 - how can I get it?

Looks like they haven't provided that. I expect because in fact 3.04 is identical to 3.03 apart from the MP code - they changed what back-end servers are used by the game. So it would make no difference to an SP game anyway.

Given that I'm totally puzzled why this has happened to your save game file. It was started under 3.03, is that right?

This story is strange.

I must have been using 3.03 which has some improvements for hive minds amongst the other mods.

When 3.04 was forced on us (yes, I now have changed my setup to stop that) my game had very bad resource problems. The 3.04 release note said rollback to 2.8.1 which I did. The was awful - all my pops were dead.

I was advised to use 3.03 but it isnt available so I tried 3.02 which had awful resource problems.

As a last attempt I decided to try again with 3.04.

Magic ! It works

So my guess is that the first release of 3.04 was based on 3.02. Then someone noticed some problems so they quickly applied the 3.03 changes to the 3.04 release.

Can any developers confirm my hypothesis?

How have you done that? AFAIk the only way to stop Steam applying updates is to put it in offline mode.

Your hypothesis requires 3.04 to have been released twice without notification. And any change of the nature you describe would mean a change in checksum, which did not happen.

My guess now is that 3.04 did not in fact apply cleanly the first time, possibly a Steam Verify would have fixed it.

Anyway glad you got there!

Some points:
- there is an option in settings that appears to stop automatic updates but it is not very clear
- I must say that the Paradox support is very hard to find and use
- I cannot even find out how to do copy/paste
- when I did find technical support I have been impressed by the help I received

Back to the game!

My special thanks to you

The only option Steam offer you is to apply updates when they come out or not until next time you run the game.

I cannot even find out how to do copy/paste
Of what, sorry?
