I am a newbie and this is my first post.

I am playing England and it is about 1580, Queen Elizabeth I is nice to have. Anyway, I have already colonized most of the east side of North America from colony to city and located Iroquios. As I move inland I reach provinces that dont allow colonization or only allow a trader. Most of these provinces are in the south. Yes, they are unoccupied and I have plenty of cash. I am still creating new colonies in the north. What causes this.

And let me add a complaint, and complaints are few on this great game. The Dutch nationalism is stupid. I annexed the Neterlands 15 years ago, not knowing of its unique nationalism. Anyway I have lost more solders to holland than spain during war. Holland revolts 3-4 times a year with an army of 80,000 and my army knocks it to 60,000 by the end of the battle. I keep a standing army of over 100k and i still lose control often. My Point: Holland losing 60,000 men per year (3 revolts 20,000 per revolt), not counting what I take out for my army (10,000 a year) for 15 years gives a loss of 900,000 men in the last 15 years. not bad for a province that has a population of 35,000 in its largest city. Shouldn't they slow down sometime? There are not that many dutch men of fighting age in the world at this time, and every dutch province is doing the same damn thing.

U can only colonise territories adjacent to the coast or cities. U can build tps everywhere if it is connected to a previous settlement.

The Great Lakes (handled as coast) and Siberia (any settlement is good for colonising) are exceptions.

That's the Netherlands for u :D

Not to mention that in EU that it is not the population of the province, but of the capitol city of the province. I'm not terribly fond of that.

There are a number of threads here that deal with handling Dutch Nationalism. In my last game as Spain I was able to hold onto them real easily.

If the garrison revolts, kill the army but don't take back the province. If not, let the rebel army siege and take the province, then kill it but don't take back the province.

It seems they need an army to declare independance and once all provinces are in rebel hands they won't revolt again.

Which is a pretty major bug. You're not *supposed* to be able to hold on to them: there's no other rationale for having a hard-coded rebellion in the first place. It was only added because the Dutch had so much impact on the world during this time period that it would look weird if they weren't in it, so wrecking the rebellion really shouldn't be an option.

"Connected to previous settlement" meaning a colonial city (700+ population) - at least in my experience. Once you have cities on the coast, you can start colonising the interior. You don't want to do that too fast anyway: if you lock out the whole coastline you can fill in the interior at leisure without any competition.

Thanks for the help, that was the case on the colony problem.

I am still a bit frustrated on the dutch but I am not far from 1600 so I will just wait it out. At this rate I will have killed 1,500,000 dutch soldiers this generation. I wish my other provinces could repopulate as quickly!

Rebels don't get killed, they just go back to their farms. You don't really want to kill off your own workforce, do you? :D

After a lost battle rebels just disband and go home. They never have support but all those farmers are fleeing back home :D

They have support while they're at home farming. Kinda hard to harvest the corn while you and your scythe are standing around outside the government offices looking for someone to disembowel :D
