Cannot Host a game

My problem is, whenever I try to host a multiplayer game (doesn't matter if
via valkyrnet, LAN, or internet), I click on the host button, the computer
gets stuck for 5 seconds, and then, nothing else happens, as if I'd not
clicked.
It worked before, but, somewhen, it stopped working.

I'm running an athlon XP 64 (with windows XP profesional), 1 Gb ram, ports of the router are open (as I said, it worked, but suddenly stopped working).

Any help would be apreciated.

Can you join games OK? Have you upgraded your anti-virus software or firewall?

yes, I can join games. and, my antivirus, and firewall are upgraded, but anyways, it doesn't work neither when I deactivate them. (using McAfee)

Troubleshoot some. First what version, try to update to version 1.3a. Install HoI temporarily on another computer to see if its the router or the computer. Try a fresh install and patch. I would guess it's a port problem. Redo the ports in the router config. If you really wanna see if it's your router, DMZ it, that will turn off the hardware firewall to your computer so I wouldn't recommend keeping it like that.

I already have 1.3a, it happened somewhen after installing 1.3 (but yes, I was able to host with 1.3, and after a couple of games, I wasn't). On other computers on the same network, it works. I switched the IP settings between this computer and the other one, and still, it didn't work here. I don't think it's a router problem, cuz it doesn't want to host on direct pc-pc lan neither.
My problem is similar to the one of the guy that says it seems like being an open link, although I can join. (Whenever I join my friends game it has a lot of lag, but that's cuz of his slow connection/computer, and that'd be a reason for another thread).
I tried to uninstall, but it didn't let me, said something about corrupt file or so, so I uninstalled manually as said in the troubleshooting forum, installed again, and still had the same problem. Similar thing happens if I just click on reinstall, it reinstalls it without any problems, but doesn't let me host neither.
I never used a mod, so that cannot be the probem to not let me uninstall or host, never modified any file. In case I'd have used some, it would be gone after uninstalling and installing, so that shouldn't be an issue neither (didn't even know that mods exist, nor what any file made untill I had this problem and entered the forums).
