I wanted to see what things would look like under 1024x768. I went to Settings, clicked, and was told 'The file OLEAUT32.DLL is out of date. This program requires a newer version'.
What gives? I have a GEForce3 video card. Anyone know?

this file is located in your EU2 directory as well as your Windows\System directory.
right-click on the file and select "properties" and select the version tab. In case both are of different versions, copy the most recent one over the other.

Sorry -my mistake - didn't look in the Windows/system folder.
Found all files, EU2 has the newer version of two files OLEAUT32 and OLEPRO32. Do I need to copy both? It won't screw up my computer? And I have to boot up in MS-DOS and copy in MS-DOS?
I'm a little scared without your official approval of these moves, so in the meantime I just changed the resolution in the cfg file. But this means that EU2 loads twice - once when I start the game, another (in the higher reolution) when I load a saved game. Mind you it's no biggie and the game looks great! But I'd still like to make that modification to my windows System files. Only I'm scared.

Yeah I remember vaguely. I'm sure to get it right after a few stabs. I'm only slightly apprehensive that I might have a problem if Windows doesn't like this transplant. I see no reason why it shouldn't take but the idea of not being able to play EU2 all of a sudden gives me shivers!
no, there is nothing wrong it Worst case scenario, some software you installed recently will complain that it has a wrong version of the file, in that case, just ditch that application and find another one.

These files have nothing to do with EU2 itself, but are the so called OLE Automation drivers from Windows. These enable features like one application telling another what to do. This is how MS Office works under the hood.
The reason you need these new files is that the resolution changer from EU2 uses Microsoft's newest Visual Basic for Applications, ie. the file MSVBM60.DLL. This file is also present in your EU2 directory, and you may copy that one as well.
IMHO, it's a 'bug' in the installation program, which should have taken care of the file copying in the first place.

PS. I personally think it is a wee bit overkill to use Visual Basic for Apps, through OLE Automation, to alter these settings:
